About the program:
• Zambia is currently grappling with a cholera outbreak that was initially reported in October 2023 and as of of March 4, 2024, the country has recorded a cumulative total of 20,843 cholera cases and 703 deaths, with an average case fatality rate of 3.4% including pediatrics. To mitigate the impact of cholera and enhance the quality of healthcare services, CHAI with support from the ELMA Relief Foundation is looking to implement a comprehensive support initiative focusing on case management and nutritional support of children suffering from cholera to complement the efforts of the Ministry of Health to comprehensively deal with the pandemic. The objectives of the support are to (1) decrease cholera case mortalities by improving case management through the deployment of skilled medical professionals, (2) reduce cholera-related malnutrition cases among pediatric patients through the provision of nutritional supplements, and (3) improve the capacity of cholera treatment centres to provide pediatric-centered care by procuring equipment and medical supplies for pediatric cholera management and associated complications.
• This initiative will involve the recruitment of qualified Junior Resident Medical Officers (20), Registered Nurses (30), and Laboratory Technologists (04) to strengthen the healthcare response in selected areas on a consultancy basis for a limited duration of three months.
