• About School Club Zambia
School Club Zambia is a UK and Zambian registered organisation working with schools in Sinazongwe district in the Southern province, to ensure every child has access to high quality, vocational and creative education and where education leads to job security and life-long learning opportunities. We are currently working with in 11 schools in Zambia, where our work reaches 6,000 children and young adults per year. After many years of working with vulnerable schools across the country, the founders strongly believed that an alternative financial and environmental model for rural schools was needed in recognition of the severe lack of resources, remote locations and low quality of education. Since 2018 we have increasingly included mitigation strategies to combat the devastating impact that climate change is having in rural Southern Zambia into our work. Charcoal burning has increased dramatically due to being one of the few sources of income that rural families can rely on. Whilst unpredictable rains, an increase in pests and a reduction in wild fish stocks are increasingly affecting families in this region’s traditional farming livelihoods. We have seen first hand that practical training in climate smart agriculture, rainwater harvesting and eco stoves can reduce incidences of extreme poverty and provide young people with adaption skills that will help prevent them depending on charcoal burning or needing to move to town for work in the future.
