Bioenergy definition: We define bioenergy as a source of energy derived from forest land, forest, manure and municipality waste or energy crops for electricity, heat or transport.
About you:
• You are a Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) Specialist and you have provided technical assistance to donor funded projects and experience in scaling up proven best practices in Zambia and the energy sector and a track record of developing BCC strategies.
• The biggest benefits of this role are, having to contribute to shaping the potential bioenergy market in Zambia by defining the scope and potential for growth in this sector.
• The biggest challenge of this role will be multitasking and completing documents to adhere to international “client-ready” levels.
• The current team around this role is made up of a bioenergy feedstock expert, strategic planning & business development, project funding, household/medium/large bioenergy experts, demand expert, gender/social/climate change experts, government procedures expert, monitoring & evaluation and behavioural change communication expert. The team, in general, describes themselves as passionate, adaptable and ultimately, capable.
About the Role – Main purpose and scope of work:
• The Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) specialist will be primarily responsible for information, communication, and education (IEC) as well as behaviour change communications activities of the project that support the scaling up of the demand and supply of bioenergy in Zambia.
• S/he will work in collaboration with the other team members on Bioenergy Communication so that models, tools, standards and campaigns developed by the team are implemented. .

Duties and key responsibilities:
• Analyse Zambian situations pertaining to the challenge of increasing the household demand for bioenergy and provider behaviour in responding to unmet needs for bioenergy.
• Formulate and develop locally appropriate IEC/BCC strategies based on national models, templates, and standards based on local analyses.
• Develop a guide the local implementation of IEC/BCC activities in both public and private sectors based on demonstrated good practices (split by bioenergy feedstock source and bioenergy technology type).
• Ensure that Zambians take cognizance of the importance of IEC/BCC and that they devote adequate resources and manpower to these activities.
• Provide leadership, expertise and support to Bioenergy Team by overseeing the communication component of the CIGZambia program.
• Plan and deliver communication campaigns and high-profile events (i.e. national & international conferences, seminars, and workshops) aimed at boosting the visibility of the bioenergy project and increasing engagement with partners and stakeholders.
• Engage local media to effectively highlight the project activities and success stories, build capacity of local media to more effectively report on issues related to bioenergy.
• Design and develop communication materials (i.e. printed infographics, one-pagers, flyers, newsletter, banner etc.).
• Develop the ToR and oversee the conceptualisation and production of audio-visual materials to be delivered by vendors /consultants.
• Research and write communication materials to reflect the key messages for distribution to donors, media, stakeholders and partners through a variety of mediums.
• Produce blog articles, speech and concept notes.
• Develop partnerships/ coalitions/alliances to enhance bioenergy team credibility and legitimacy as an advocate by promoting its public image and visibility; deliver persuasive, evidence-based and solution-oriented messages to the public, decision-makers, stakeholders and those who influence them.
• Support building strong partnerships with national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and national government offices.
• Support colleagues to develop and implement communication strategies.
• Write and ensure quality of press releases and other forms of internal and external communications.
• Arrange press conferences, partners meeting and networking events.
• Support and develop communication related materials as required from different projects.
• Support field coordination and extract cases from the field to develop success stories.
• Carry out any other activities related to Behaviour Change Communication as and when prescribed by team leader.
• Write, edit and proofread report and documents.
• Present drafts to team leader and incorporate feedback.
• Consult with other work colleagues within the working environment.
• Observe professional conduct in the workplace such as time keeping.
• Provide other miscellaneous services related to or outside job description as per Team Leader instructions.

Required Qualifications / Minimum Requirements:
• Minimum of a Master’s degree in development, communications, media, broadcasting, energy, social sciences, education, or other fields related to the concerns of the project.
• >5 years of experience being involved in a project of similar or related nature, size, and complexity, with national or local governments, NGOs, or donors; preference given to a candidate who has worked in devolved bioenergy settings.
• Demonstrated understanding and familiarity with development communications issues and solutions, especially in bioenergy.
• Familiarity and understanding of DFID policies and procedures, or those of other donors, or those of donor-funded projects; community-based projects; or corporate social responsibility projects.
• Familiarity with the Zambian energy sector and local culture.
• Proven relevant working experience in Zambia.
• Worked for 2 organisations (> 2 years’ experience with each).
• Working knowledge of MS Excel Formulas.
• Working knowledge of MS Word Styles.
• Working knowledge of MS PowerPoint Shape Formatting.
• Capable of sitting for hours behind a computer screen to put in the work.
• Capable to conduct field work in rural areas/environment.
