Bioenergy definition: We define bioenergy as a source of energy derived from forest land, forest, manure and municipality waste or energy crops for electricity, heat or transport.
About you:
• You are an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Specialist with additional knowledge on Gender and Gender Mainstreaming and you have provided technical assistance to donor funded projects.
• The biggest benefits of this role are, having to contribute to shaping the potential bioenergy market in Zambia by defining the scope and potential for growth in this sector.
• The biggest challenge of this role will be multitasking and completing documents to adhere to international “client-ready” levels.
• The current team around this role is made up of a bioenergy feedstock experts, strategic planning & business development, project funding, household/medium/large bioenergy experts, demand expert, gender/social/climate change experts, government procedures expert, monitoring & evaluation and behavioural change communication expert. The team, in general, describes themselves as passionate, adaptable and ultimately, capable.
About the Role – Main purpose and scope of work:
• Improving the capability of clients in all areas of ESIA implementation using the International Finance Corporation (IFC) assessment framework.

Duties and key responsibilities:
• Assist the Implementing Company in fulfilling its obligations under the relevant grant agreements.
• Assist the Bioenergy Team in all issues related to Gender, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment towards implementation of the bioenergy projects in Zambia.
• Assist the Implementing Company in the implementation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) and the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP).
• Assist the Implementing Agency/Company in the sensitization of project area inhabitants on communicable diseases environmental protection and support of gender mainstreaming activities.
• Assist the Implementing Agency/Company with implementing road safety education and awareness programs in communities along the project alignment.
• Providing ESIA advice in conjunction with the team leader.
• Project meeting attendance, including stakeholder and public consultations.
• Report writing, including drafting and technical review of reports, ESIA chapters.
• Site inspections and desk based environmental baseline data interpretation.

Required Qualifications / Minimum Requirements:
• A Bachelor’s degree, in Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources Management or related field.
• >5 years of experience being involved in a project of similar or related nature, size, and complexity, with national or local governments, NGOs, or donors; preference given to a candidate who has worked in devolved bioenergy settings.
• 10+ years of experience in assessing environmental and social impacts of medium to large scale infrastructure and economic development projects in developing countries.
• Experience in using the IFC’s environmental and social impact assessment framework to execute environmental and social impact assessments for small-scale to large scale development projects in developing countries.
• Familiarity and understanding of DFID policies and procedures, or those of other donors, or those of donor-funded projects; community-based projects; or corporate social responsibility projects.
• Proven relevant working experience in Zambia.
• Worked for 2 organisations (> 2 years’ experience with each).
• Working knowledge of MS Excel Formulas.
• Working knowledge of MS Word Styles.
• Working knowledge of MS PowerPoint Shape Formatting.
• Capable of sitting for hours behind a computer screen to put in the work.
• Capable to conduct field work in rural areas/environment.
