JOB DETAILS:
Self Help Africa (SHA) is an international NGO dedicated to the vision of an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa. We have been working in Zambia since the mid-eighties and have years of experience working with smallholder farmers, farmer associations, cooperatives and agribusinesses across the country to help farmers grow and sell more food, improve diets, deal with crises and emergencies, and diversify incomes and make their livelihoods more sustainable and resilient to external shocks.
Self Help Africa would like to recruit for the following positions for an anticipated project whose implementation is likely to start in September 2021. The specifications for the positions are given below;
Position: Agriculture Facilitators
Location: Chikankata (2) and Kalomo (2) districts

Purpose:
The main responsibilities of the Agricultural Facilitators are to support smallholder farmers to build their resilience through enhancing the adoption and practice of climate smart agriculture (climate sensitive production technologies) to increase production and productivity of diversified crops and facilitate access to appropriate inputs that will conform to prevailing agro-ecological conditions of the targeted districts. The Agriculture facilitators will be responsible for implementation of programme activities at field level and will therefore ensure that there is effective interface between the project and it’s beneficiaries.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
• To provide extension services in crop production and management amongst smallholder farmers in targeted communities,
• To mobilise smallholder farmers into Commodity Producer Groups (CPGs) to enhance production of identified commodities,
• To promote the use of hermetic storage solutions such as Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) bags to help increase food availability and improve the quality and safety of crops.
• To promote commercialization of specific agriculture products and improve smallholder farmers’ access to markets through leveraging existing linkages with private sector actors.
• To carry out extensive field visits to programme operational areas to offer on spot technical support to the smallholder farmers on agriculture development related topics,
• To train lead farmers and smallholder farmers in various climate smart agriculture techniques
• To mobilise smallholder farmers into savings and credit groups and enable them access financial services from the formal (MFIs and Banks) and informal (VSLAs, SILC) sources
• To write and submit activity reports on a regular and timely basis,
3. Required Relevant Experience:
• Proven experience in promoting soil fertility management and conservation practices for smallholder farmers,
• Demonstrate strong facilitation skills particularly when it comes to smallholder farmers mobilisation and training
• Excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge and understanding of local culture and language of the programme area,
• A valid licence for riding motorbikes
• At least a Diploma in Agriculture from a recognised institution,
• A minimum of 5 years post qualification practical experience in similar programmes,
• Ability to communicate in the local language for the target districts will be an added advantage
