Consultant – Geographic Information Systems/Remote Sensing (Gis/Rs) Expert Sustainable Landscapes And Livelihoods (SLL) Team
The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) envision a more equitable world where trees in all landscapes, from drylands to the humid tropics, enhance the environment and well-being for all. CIFOR-ICRAF is looking for a;
Consultant – Geographic Information Systems/Remote Sensing (GIS/RS) Expert
The Zambia office is undertaking several protects under the Sustainable Landscape and Livelihoods (SLL) flagship and these include the Governing Multifunctional landscapes (GML), Collaborating to Operationalize Landscape Approaches, Nature, Development and Sustainability (COLANDS), the Sustainable Wildlife Management Project (SWM); Resilient River Basins: Counting Fish from Forests for Food Security” Project (RRB), and Zambia Wild Foods Surveys Project (ZWFP).

Summary of responsibilities
• Map digitization and database preparation activities
• Update and enhance existing electronic maps for publishing and visualization
• Collect and validate GPS/DGPS field data
• Index and maintain all the GIS/RS data and maps available in the CIFOR Zambia Office
• Prepare maps based on existing GIS data layers, carry out analysis on existing data and field collected data as per the requirements of Zambia Office
• Verify process and store all the GIS and related data collected from by field staff
• Perform GIS/RS data standardization and analysis on existing and acquired data in consultation with other researchers
• Conduct R Script/programming

Requirements
Education, knowledge and experience
• BEng or BSc in Geomatics Engineering, Geography, GIS/Remote or other related fields sensing with an understanding of quantitative data analysis packages;
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in collaborative research
• Expert in GIS/Remote Sensing, KOBO;
• Experience in writing publications record especially in peer-reviewed publications
• Experience in working with multicultural and multidisciplinary research teams
• Very good facilitation skills and team-building capacity
• Fluent in spoken and written English.

• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Values the sharing of information and continuous improvement in a cooperative atmosphere of constructive evaluation and learning.
• Ability to work with local communities with participatory approaches
• Ability to work in the field on regular basis
Terms and conditions
• This is full-time consultancy position.
• Duration of the assignment is 6 months
• Working locations: Livingstone, Zambia
