JOB DETAILS:
The Organisation
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.
Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.
We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.
We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 85 years, and are now active in more than 75 countries.

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join Plan International’s Global Leadership team as General Counsel, directing and overseeing the global legal function.
The General Counsel is accountable for delivering an effective legal advisory function to PII and managing legal risk appropriately. Reporting to the CEO, the General Counsel advises Plan International globally, including its International Board and Members’ Assembly, Executive Team, Country Offices, Regional Offices and Liaison Offices.
Ideal applicants will be qualified as a lawyer in the UK or the US with significant post qualification experience, including in house. Highly experienced at providing legal advice in house and internationally on a diverse range of complex issues you have a thorough understanding of the legal and corporate governance issues affecting international not for profit organisations.
The General Counsel is responsible for managing a highly pressurised team and excellent leadership, management and people development skills are essential, alongside the ability to communicate effectively with, and influence those over whom the Counsel has no direct responsibility.
