FZS Zambia Grant Manager
• About FZS/the project:
• The Frankfurt Zoological Society conserves wildlife and ecosystems, focusing on protected areas and outstanding wild places. FZS maintains long-term conservation programmes in Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe. The Africa Programme is FZS’ largest and oldest and is active in five focal countries: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe (www.fzs.org).
• FZS Zambia (FZS ZM) has been active in the North Luangwa Ecosystem since 1986 and in Nsumbu-Tanganyika since 2017, working to conserve these globally important wilderness areas. FZS ZM supports effective and efficient protected area management, focusing on law enforcement, conservation education, livelihoods, and collaborating with communities in game management areas to manage their resources. FZS ZM continues to seek to expand its activities both in geographical and thematic scope. FZS ZM’s work is currently funded with significant grants from FZS core funding, international government partners, and private donors.

Tasks:
A new position, Grant Manager, is now available to support and manage specific projects and portfolios assigned to this role.
This position involves:
• Fundraising
• Donor proposal and budget development
• Grant administration and management
• Technical and financial reporting for FZS ZM—North Luangwa Conservation Programme (NLCP), Nsumbu Tanganyika Conservation Programme (NTCP) and landscape expansion bi/multilateral donors

While the position is based in Lusaka, it requires travel to the North Luangwa, Nsumbu, and other landscapes, and on occasion, to the FZS HQ in Frankfurt, Germany.
Expectation:
• A master’s degree is required, preferably in economics, accounting, business, public administration, or a related field
• Must have at least 8 years of experience overseeing financial and administrative activities, including at least five years of substantial and successful project grant management experience, preferably in the conservation and development sector
• Proven experience in the national and international conservation or development arena
• Must have demonstrated expertise in building capacity of staff, grantees, and other programme partners
• Experience managing the compliance, administrative and financial functions of programmes or programme portfolios with annual budgets of at least $4 million
• Proven experience in complying with bi/multilateral donor (e.g. EU, KfW, GIZ, LLF) procurement regulations and financial reporting requirements, financial audits, and internal and external evaluations
• Experience in designing and managing government and multilateral grants and sub-recipient grant programmes is preferred
• Experience working with accounting and grants management software is required
• Fluency in English is required, and advanced or business proficiency in German (written and spoken) is preferred.
• Excellent verbal, aural and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organisational, quantitative and analytical skills with emphasis on project and financial management, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and learning (MERL)
• Excellent attention to detail; ability to prioritise and work accurately under time constraints
• Excellent editorial management, editing and writing skills
• Credibility and intellectual stature to gain trust and collaborate effectively with colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and other institutions
• Ability and willingness to travel nationally
• Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, and to meet deadlines and commitments
• Ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities with strong organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to work effectively as a team member with a wide range of individuals across cultures, disciplines, and time zones
• Demonstrated ability to work proficiently with both Office 365 (strong Excel skills) and Google suites
• Committed to building and strengthening a culture of inclusion within and across teams
