JOB DETAILS:
The Houseparent is responsible for all aspects of the functioning of the Boarding House of which he or she is in charge. Responsible for the welfare of the boys under their charge, for the day- to-day management of the house staff. Expected to run the house in accordance with agreed school practice. The Houseparent becomes a member of the teaching staff with reduced teaching assignments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• To oversee the personal and academic development of all the boys in his or her care;
• To ensure the School Minimum Standards for Boarding are adhered to;
• To see that good discipline is maintained;
• To make all necessary domestic arrangements for the comfort, health and welfare of the pupils in the Boarding House
• To coordinate House Matron(s) and other staff as may be required to run the Boarding House efficiently;
• To see that the Boarding House is always properly and efficiently staffed, overseeing the Assistant Houseparent, cleaning staff and pastoral staff on duty in the evenings;
• To conduct all ordinary correspondence with parents and others concerning the health and welfare of boarders at the Boarding House;
• To ensure that all furniture, equipment and fittings in the Boarding House, including the private side, remain in good repair and condition (fair wear and tear excepted),
• To arrange for all required maintenance;
• To maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of school-related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information;
• To undertake all reasonable requests and directions made by, or on behalf of, the Trust to promote the interests of Simba International School.
• To ensure the Boarding House has a happy and secure environment in which each pupil is able to develop emotionally and academically and become a valued member of society.
• To monitor pastoral care and report findings to the Head
• To promote opportunities for the personal, moral, social, cultural and spiritual development of each pupil in the Boarding House.
• To ensure policies on pastoral issues (including child protection, bullying, rewards and sanctions) are understood and adhered to.
• To be responsible for the extra-curricular programme in the Secondary section, ensuring pupils have a variety of experiences.

• Degree or equivalent qualification
• Further qualifications in boarding
• Certificates
• Experience
• Experience of pastoral care of children in an educational environment
• Experience of working with children in a residential setting.
• Significant ongoing training in boarding
• Written Application and interview.
• Skills and Knowledge
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents and pupils
• Ability to engage with and impress prospective parents
• Ability to manage children in groups
• A passion for the broader education of children
• Competence in enforcing rules and routines
• Effective time management and organisational skills
