JOB DETAILS:

Job Purpose
Under the Supervision of the Senior Inspector. The Inspector -Pesticides and Toxic Substances shall be responsible for planning, evaluating applications and licensing of pesticides and toxic substances. The Inspector will also be responsible for monitoring pesticides value chain, capacity building trainings, enforcement and ensuring compliance to the Environmental Management Act and subsidiary legislation.

Main duties include:
The main duties and responsibilities of the position include;

• Draw and conduct annual programmes for licensing for facilities directly under ownership and to increase the client base.
• Draw and conduct annual programmes for compliance monitoring based on regulations, license conditions.
• Review Pesticides and Toxic Substances application dossiers
• Undertake field inspections, pesticides efficacy monitoring, crop pest management and pesticides resistance surveillance.
• Field Monitoring on plant phytosanitary and pesticides seed treatment with respect to registered pesticides
• Plan and participate in annual auditing of facilities directly under ownership in the zone. vii. Ensure that statutory returns are submitted on time by clients and analyzed for decision making. vill. Training farmers and pesticides users in pesticides management and pest control.
• Attend meetings, write timely reports and liaise with the Senior Inspector to ensure that
• resolutions from such meetings are implemented.
• Collect, manage, analyse and store data to create a basis for Information to be used in decision making by Management.
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of acceptable field, monthly, quarterly and annual Inspectorate reports and any other reports required by Management.
• Conduct investigations in environmental incidences, to determine cause and take corrective measures.
• Develop and prepare recommendations for Improvements of regulations, standards and guidelines. xlv. Plan, create and maintain an inventory of clients in the zone and conduct activities to promote the corporate image of Agency and contribute to maximisation of income generation through expansion of clientele.
• Plan, prepare and Implement effective methods of response to emergencies/complaints in order to protect and mitigate against environmental damage.

Required attributes and Competencies High Integrity
• Self-starter, goal-oriented person
• Able to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills and high ethical standards.
• Must be computer literate.
• Below 45 years
• Confidentiality and willingness to work long and awkward hours occasionally.

Minimum Qualification and Experience

• Grade 12 School Certificate or its equivalent
• Degree or equivalent in agriculture sciences (Plant Science) or any related field.
• 3 years of experience in a reputable organization
• Post graduate degree/Masters Degree in environmental sciences or related field a must
• Experience working in government institution especially on crop science phytosanitary will be added advantage
