Intensive English Training Coordinators
Descriptor: To coordinate the delivery of a two-week intensive teacher training proficiency course to A1 level lower-primary English teachers in Rwanda. To support British Council and local teacher trainers in delivering the pilot.
About the project
The intensive English teacher training project is in addition to the wider Building Learning Foundations programme (BLF) which is funded by the UK AID and aims to improve the quality of teaching and leadership in all of Rwanda’s government primary schools. The programme is implemented by a consortium of organizations; Education Development Trust (lead), British Council and VSO and will benefit all Primary 1 – Primary 3 (P1-3) English and Maths teachers in all of Rwanda’s 2,494 primary schools. British Council is responsible for the BLF’s English component. In response to the results of the baseline APTIS test in January 2018, BLF is piloting an intensive English residential course to help boost the speaking skills of the P1-3 English teachers with the lowest levels of English (A0-A1 CEFR). The intensive face-to-face residential course for 200 teachers will take place during the December school holidays. The materials for this course will be designed specifically for the Rwanda context and will be based on the REB teacher English A1 syllabus. The course will be delivered in tandem with 10 British Council recruited teacher trainers and 10 local classroom assistants supported by two British Council Intensive English Training Coordinators.
About the role
The residential training will take place in teacher training colleges in two districts in (rural) Rwanda and it is expected that there will be 6 hours of lessons per day. The training is both ambitious and demanding in terms of delivery and outcomes and will require flexibility and resourcefulness.
Main duties:
Coordinate delivery of training through managing the day-to-day logistics.
Support trainers and classroom assistants in delivering training.
Quality assure training through carrying out teacher observations and feedback.
Proactively communicate and liaise with others to ensure effective coordination and delivery of training
Cover teach classes in case of teacher absence or sickness as and when need arises.
Complete course related administrative tasks to specified standards.
Carry out monitoring and evaluation tasks as required
Attend a one-week induction and planning workshop in Kigali with project staff and classroom assistants prior to training.
Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with British Council standards and policy for child protection.
Qualifications and experience required
