JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
To assist in the management of all litigation matters as well as give timely legal counsel to company officials in order to ensure smooth discharge of duties in accordance with relevant legal provisions (mining laws, labour laws, partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance etc.)
The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:
1. Represent Mopani in all legal disputes.
2. Under the direction of the Legal Counsel, deal with correspondence, collate information and write reports, communicate decisions to relevant company stakeholders.
3. Contribute to meeting discussions, and when required advise members of the legal, governance, accounting and tax departments of the implications of proposed policies and legislation.
4. Monitor changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment and take appropriate action.
5. Under the direction of the Legal Counsel, liaise with external regulators and advisers, such as lawyers and auditors.
6. Under the direction of the Legal Counsel, develop and oversee the systems that ensure the company complies with all applicable legislation, in addition to its legal and statutory requirements.
7. Filing of Court documents on behalf of the Company.
8. Writing reports to the Legal Counsel on legal outcomes.
9. Preparing legal opinions and guidance on changes to pieces of legislation affecting the operations of the Company and similar compliance related matters.
10. Collating and maintaining information/records on all legal matters affecting the company.
11. Drive the Health, Safety and Environment Standards/Policy awareness and practice in the Department to ensure compliance and reduce all forms of accidents to zero.
12. Adhering to all other assignments that are given that are lawful and fair.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:
1. Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
2. Degree in Law from a recognized University.
3. ‘Bar’ admission as a Legal Practitioner.
4. Member of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) with Valid Current Practicing Certificate.
5. At least 1 year of experience in Legal role function in the Mining Industry, Corporate organizations or private practice.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of Mining Law, Corporate Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, Land Law, Employment law, Pension Law and other relevant legislation pertaining to the operations of the business.
7. Excellent and well-proven interpersonal relations and communication skills.
8. Excellent research, data collection, analysis ,good networking and presentation skills.
9. Proven top-tier team-building and team-leading skills with exceptional managerial skills.
10. High sense of time urgency, results oriented and innovative self-starter.
11. High ability to work under pressure without supervision, meet deadlines and execute difficult assignments at short notice.
12. High level of integrity and in possession of a flair for litigation and corporate advisory.
13. Good report writing, general written presentation skills with attention to detail and should be computer literate.
