Payroll and Tax Compliance Assistant
Job Description & Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for client payrolls and tax compliance matters. They will report to management and will liaise closely with them to deliver efficient payroll and tax compliance services. This role requires building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal client payroll and tax information provided and preparing the tax returns based on the information shared by the client.

Additionally, the job holder will perform duties assigned by management from time to time.
• Maintaining payroll data compliance teams to ensure the smooth running of the services.
The day-to-day duties are varied and include ensuring payroll information is collated from the clients on time, capturing payroll information accurately, ensuring timely processing of payrolls and ensuring timely post payroll statutory compliance.
With respect to tax compliance, the day to day duties mostly include ensuring that information required for preparation of tax returns is timely requested from the client, reviewing the information to confirm the reasonableness of the bases
• Following up payroll information as needed
• Ensuring timely processing of payrolls
• Processing salary payments
• Providing monthly payroll reports to the clients
• Addressing payroll related client queries
• Timely submission of payroll tax returns and ensuring that clients pay liabilities to respective authorities timely;
• Preparing monthly Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax and any other returns and submitting these to the Revenue Authority on a timely manner;
• Reviewing of tax statement of accounts to confirm that the submitted returns and payments made by clients have been correctly captured by the revenue authority;
• Liaising with the Revenue Authority on any matters relating to clients’ tax affairs; and
• Attending all internal mandatory technical training organised by the firm.

Preferred skills
• Typical qualities of a successful candidate include:
• Familiar with the Zambia tax legislation
• Familiar with payroll softwares
• Excellent data entry and maintenance skills
• Familiar with online bank interfaces
• Familiar with the Zambian social security legislation
• Ability to establish and maintain good relationships, both internally and externally at all levels
• Outstanding attention to detail with an ability to keep track of numerous tasks Accurate, efficient and organised with the ability to prioritise tasks as needed
• Good computer skills, particularly with spreadsheets
• Appreciation of confidentiality and discretion
• Professional, confident and diplomatic when liaising with others
• Minimum professional qualification – complete ACCA foundation level 2, or ZICA Diploma in accountancy, or CIMA Management Level or ZICA Diploma in Taxation or equivalent qualification.

Minimum years experience required
• The person should be of Zambian nationality with 2 to 5 years experience in a similar position
