  The Hunger Project (THP) is a Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1977 with offices in twenty-two countries worldwide. THP works on ending chronic hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grass-root integrated women centered strategies and advocating for their wide spread adoption in countries throughout the world. Our vision is a world where every woman, man and child lead a health fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity
In Africa, THP has operations in nine countries where the epicenter strategy is being implemented. THP’s epicenter strategy mobilizes rural communities into “epicenters” which comprise 5,000 to 15,000 people who create a dynamic center where communities are mobilized for action to meet their own basic needs. This holistic strategy takes communities on a path to sustainable self-reliance through four distinct stages over a period of 5-8 years. THP currently works with this strategy in 89 epicenters in the 9 African countries, reaching a total of 1,341 villages with more than 1.2 million people. THP key thematic areas of the epicenter strategy include; food security and nutrition, land productivity and climate change resilience, water sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child heath, HIV /AIDS, enterprise development and youth empowerment, literacy and education, micro-finance and women empowerment.
The epicenter strategy in Zambia was co-created and will be implemented with partner NGOs. The program coordinator’s main responsibility will be to develop and facilitate collaboration with and among partners as well as building effective government linkages. The program coordinator will be expected to coordinate processes leading to wide spread adoption of THP methodology by government and stakeholders. Further, the program coordinator will be required to provide support to the partners in implementing programs in the community..

  Responsibilities
• Establish strategic partnerships, develop and maintain excellent relationships with partners, government officials and other relevant stakeholders
• Advocate for widespread adoption of the epicenter strategy at provincial level and ensure buy-in and continued support from relevant stakeholders at provincial and district level.
• Coordinate with partners and government ministries to facilitate effective and timely program implementation.
• Support the development, implementation and review of operational plans, including annual work plan and budget, aligned to THP Zambia’s strategic plan.
• Provide support to the Country Director in the design, implementation, and expansion of THP program activities in Zambia.
• Coordinate with and support partners at provincial level to produce timely submission of high-quality donor quarterly and annual reports.
• Undertake monthly monitoring visitations to the project sites.
• Provide support to partners when conducting Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) of program activities in all epicenter thematic areas.
• Work collaboratively with partners to ensure project MEL strategies, frameworks, plans and indicators capture efficiently project performance and results.
• Collaborate with partners to facilitate donor visitations.
• Collect data on program implementation, conduct analysis to support decision making related to scale up of the project in new districts.
• Conduct trainings such as, but not limited to, the Vision Commitment and Action (VCA) trainings for partners staff and government officials.
• Upon request from partners, provide technical support during trainings at community level.
• Provide technical support to the Country Director during project proposal writing, and actively participate in the development and review of the proposal.
• Represent the Country Director at provincial level in various strategic meetings and conferences to share, learn and advocate for community led development approaches.
• Provide support during the employment, development, and performance management of local staff.
• Ensure program activities operate within the policies and procedures of THP Zambia and Global.


  Skills and personal characteristics
• Demonstrated ability to work with efficiency and diplomacy.
• Proven ability to achieve results.
• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and representational skills.
• Computer literate in Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
• Program experience and technical competence in in at least 4 Epicenter thematic areas.
• Demonstrate ability to coordinate activities for complex projects having multiple activities and involving a variety of stakeholders.
• Drive and ability to work independently, manage own time and schedule, to push projects and initiatives forward.
• Demonstrated experience managing donor funds.
• Fluency in both Chichewa and English.
• Demonstrated expertise managing monitoring and evaluation tools, systems, research and evaluation.
• Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks.
• Able to ride a motorbike and have a clean driving license.
• Willing and able to be based, travel and work in remote location.

  Qualifications and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in development studies, rural /community development, social work or any relevant social science.
• At least five years relevant experience, preference working for international and local NGOs, and community-based organizations.
• Experience working with rural communities in Eastern province, proven experience working with government Ministries and authorities at all levels.
