Background

Since 2000 CRS Zambia has been implementing a number of programmes to support vulnerable communities in Zambian. Recent programming areas include nutrition, agriculture, food security, HIV/AIDS, WASH, financial inclusion, and early child development.
• CRS is preparing to implement a global project that will address critical nutrition needs of adolescent girls and young women, with an emphasis on a multi-regional perspective and incorporating a significant goods delivery component. This five-year program will be implemented across seven countries including: Guatemala, India, Liberia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Timor Leste, and Zambia. Activities in the seven countries will contribute to the achievement of global results, targets, and indictors under one global award managed by a central Senior Management Team.

Job Summary
• As a Senior Nutrition Project Officer for Sustainable, Targeted, Responsive approach to Optimize Nutrition and Growth (STRONG) for Adolescent Girls and Young Women, you will coordinate and monitor project activities and relationships with partners and other project stakeholders contributing to the achievement of STRONG project objectives and advancing Catholic Relief Services’ (CRS) work, serving the poor and vulnerable. S/he will be responsible for supporting the Project Manager in quality implementation of integrated nutrition activities under the STRONG project. S/he will coordinate training of staff and partner in the Care Group model internationally recognized behavior change communication strategy that uses peer education to cascade recommended maternal, adolescent, child health and nutrition practices. You will facilitate the training of staff and volunteers in Integrated Management of acute malnutrition (IMAM), Maternal, adolescent, Infant and young child nutrition (MAIYCN) and Community based growth monitoring and promotion (CBGMP). S/he will work closely with implementing partners to implement the Care Group methodology, providing guidance on volunteer selection and formation of Care Groups. The Nutrition Project Officer will also act as a coordinator, technical advisor and mentor to local implementing partners and project staff. She will work closely with key government technical staff to facilitate technical assistance to project staff and volunteers on agriculture, Fisheries, and livestock management.

Job Responsibilities:
• Organize and facilitate trainings for implementing partner staff and government staff in essential nutrition actions and other integrated health, WASH, and gender topics.
Coordinate trainings for partners (government and project staff) on transferring knowledge to adolescents and young women through the Care Group methodology
Work with Schools in the project site to establish School Nutrition Clubs for Adolescent and Young women.
Work with Health Facilities to strengthen the youth friendly corners to integrate nutrition and gender in day discussions.
Provide technical guidance and support to local partners on implementation of Care Group Model
Develop selection criteria for Care Group Volunteers and support partners in the formation of care groups and neighbor groups for adolescents and young women.
Support the Project Manager in mapping and identifying target communities for participation in the STRONG.
Work with SBCC Advisors to create technical content on Adolescent and Young Women nutrition for television and other media forms.
Will coordinate and work closely with technical staff from ministry of education, Health, fisheries, and agriculture in the provision of trainings to Adolescent girls and young women.
Conduct accompanying supervisory visits with local partners as needed, providing constructive feedback to ensure quality service delivery.
Participate in planning, learning and review meetings with CRS management, and government partners to assess project performance, improve coordination across partners and stakeholders and support identification of success stories, lessons learned and actions for improvement.
Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities, as required.
Contribute to report writing as required by the donor and CRS.
Support the MEAL Coordinator and MEAL officer in training field level staff in data collection tools and support monthly data collection and identifying and sharing lessons learned.
Collaborate with Social Behaviour Change Advisor and Gender Advisor in the development of social behaviour change material needed for the project.
Ensure linkages and coordination with key stakeholders at national, provincial and district level.

Candidate Profile
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, or related field.
Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in health, hygiene and/or nutrition activities or related technical discipline, with at least one year of experience in technical capacity with another NGO.
Training in health or nutrition with experience in community development will be considered. Previous experience in health behavior change for improved household nutrition is desired.
Experience working with health facilities and management of acute malnutrition at facility and community level.
Knowledgeable about essential nutrition actions, growth monitoring and promotion, pre- and post-natal care, child health and pre-natal cards, and behavior change methodologies.
Strong analytical, facilitation and coordination skills.
Experience leading and inspiring people.
Ability to transfer knowledge through trainings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of local languages preferred.
Ability to work in a team with people of diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to work within communities, while being sensitive to gender and local customs
Willingness to travel extensively in the field.
Experience with Microsoft word, internet and excel packages.

Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, or related field.
Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in health, hygiene and/or nutrition activities or related technical discipline, with at least one year of experience in technical capacity with another NGO.
