Three to four hours from Lusaka, on the Zambezi River, hidden in the majestic beauty of unspoiled African nature, lies a haven known as Redcliff Zambezi Lodge. Deriving its name from the stunning red-coloured cliffs facing the lodge – this little piece of paradise is certainly something to behold.

ABOUT Us
Redcliff Lodge was originally launched as Redcliff Zambezi Fishing Safaris in 1997, with Tiger fishing as the main focus. By the time the lodge was completed in 1999, it had become obvious that the area has so much more to offer. Both because of its remoteness as well as it’s proximity to a wealth of cultural history. Environmental sensitivity, as well as an appreciation for the privacy of our guests, were carefully considered during the design of the lodge. Chalets are conveniently spaced under large, shady riparian trees.

EXPERIENCE The River Life
The experience we offer at Redcliff Zambezi Lodge is rarely found anywhere else in the world.
A bold statement to be sure, but considering our location and our surroundings it is a boast that is easy to defend.
The Zambezi River is the fourth longest river in Africa and is a major source of water to a large number of wild life species. The Zambezi river hosts no major cities or polluting industries, making it a rather clean river for it's size. Redcliff Zambezi Lodge is located on the banks of this majestic life source a few km north of the Lower Zambezi National Park a 3000 sq km protected area through which the Zambezi River flows, a park that is home to four of the big five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant & Buffalo) as well as 378 recorded species of bird including differing species of Kingfishers, Eagles and Storks.
With the abundance of wild life, Redcliff Zambezi Lodge can assuredly boast daily sighting of Hippo, Crocodile and Elephant with in visual range of the camp (sometimes in the camp) and visits to the Lower Zambezi National park, only a 20 min boat ride away through beautiful red rock gorges, guarantee sighting of many species of animal such as Zebra, hyena, giraffe, wild dogs and the occasional cheetah. The Zambezi is also an ornithologists dream as our trained guides will help you spot the many species of bird some found nowhere else on the planet.
Staying at Redcliff Zambezi Lodge is living the river life in the truest sense and fishing is a way of that life, especially amongst the small indigenous population and why not? The Zambezi, being the 32nd longest on the planet is home to many fish species, some of which are prized for sport fishing, with our strict catch and release policy as well as our river conservation efforts, we have ensured the abundant continuation some of the Africa's best loved fish species.
MORE THAN Just a Room to Sleep
We have seven chalets of varying sizes, three are family rooms, two medium sized chalets that can fit 3 single beds and two smaller chalets. Each Chalets has it's own Balcony, Toilet and Shower and are fully netted to protect you from pesky mosquitoes.
Chalets are strategically placed under tree cover to ensure a cool experience to the hot summer months, each Chalet is also equipped with a power point and a fan.
Outside your home in the bush you will find beautiful greenery with a view of the mighty Zambezi flowing past in all it's glory. With zero city noises it is the perfect place to de-stress with an bottle of Champers served by our very own Barman, Dennis and excellent food from Chef Yvonne.
OTHER THAN The Adventure
BAR Pool & Fire Pit
Great place to chill and relax after a hard day of adventuring, bar area is covered perfect for the occasional rain and pool area is shaded keeping that pool icy cold during the harsh summer days, this area is perfectly placed to overlook the river so that you don't miss a minute of the natural beauty.
At night we light a small fire to keep with the outdoor aesthetics the perfect setting to reminisce on the days activities and to enjoy a well earned cocktail or two.
SECURE Parking
Hidden! this is not an overstatement, Redcliff Zambezi Lodge is only accesable via boat, because of this we have forged a long 20 year relationship with a small village on the banks of the Zambezi.
The village is a 10min boat ride from the lodge, here for a small daily fee we have arranged secure parking, and in all our years of operation, never had an incident.
FISH & TACKLE Shop
With future plans to build an on site tackle and souvenirs shop, we do offer an on line service, in the off chance you do have the correct equipment or do not wish to carry a full tackle set across the globe we can arrange a full kit or Zambezi specific equipment for you to rent or buy.
When making your booking one of our expert fishermen will guide you as to what you would need. You may also visit the on line store lusakatackle.com select what you need and it will be waiting for you at camp when you arrive.
REDCLIFF ZAMBEZI the Lodge
Zambia is a peaceful country with wonderfully friendly people that will delight our guests. Our Lodge is a 3 – 4 hour drive from Lusaka and there are daily flights from London to Lusaka. We recommend you shop around for the best air ticket prices as they can vary considerably between airlines for any given day. We offer a return transfer service between Lusaka and our Lodge and we can arrange (through our partner Travel Agency) for a visit to the amazing Victoria Falls as part of your package.
The lodge itself is hidden in the lush greenery surrounding the Zambezi River, built in a manner that bares little astetic impact on the surounding beauty that is the raw African wild.
Pack a mix of hot weather and cool weather clothes.
Midday temperatures rarely fall below 22 degrees Celsius in our ‘cold season’ between June and September – however – it can get cooler in the evening and especially early morning and you’ll be grateful for a warm jumper or jacket
Few are the days when the UV index in Zambia is low so sunglasses, a broad brimmed hat and SP50+ suncream are a must

ACTIVITES in Nature
Our location allows us to offer activities for many different types of adventure seeker, we are most famous for our Sport Fishing, Bird Watching and Game viewing.
Enjoy a River Safaris as you travel upstream on the Zambezi River into the scenic Mpata Gorge, accompanied by our experienced guide.
Whether from a boat or on a walking safari the area is blessed with an abundance of game. On a daily basis our guests will see Hippo’s, crocs and elephants and buffalo along with a variety of Antelope species including Waterbuck, Impala, Kudu, Hyena, Bush Buck, Nyala, Simata Monkey, Diker. The luckiest of our guests may even see African Wild Dog, Lion and most rare of all – the illusive Leopard.
With 378 recorded species of bird in the Lower Zambezi (including the ultra-rare Angola Pita and Pels Fishing Owl) the opportunity for bird watching could hardly be better. Each of our boats is equipped with a powerful pair of binoculars and our knowledgeable guides can help you identify the multitude of raptors, vultures, bee eaters, storks, kingfishers, waders, and so on that inhabit the area.
SPORT Fishing
Some of the best catches have been made close to ‘home’ off the jetty just below the lodge itself.
Other fish species found in local waters include Cornish Jack, bottle-nose, silver catfish, bream and vundu – over 30 species in all.
Fly-fishing for Zambezi tigerish has become an increasingly popular activity. Tigerish of 4-7 kg are commonly caught. It is no wonder that the Lower Zambezi is regarded as a premier angling destination.

BIRD Watching
Ornithologists and photographers alike will revel in the abundance of avifauna, including the majestic Fish Eagle for which the area is so well-known.
More than 500 indigenous bird species abound and migrating birds from the northern hemisphere settle in the area to breed during the summer months. Rare species that have been spotted in the area include the Tiata Falcon, Angola Pitta and Pel’s Fishing Owl.

GAME Viewing
Day trips into the Lower Zambezi National Park expose visitors to four of Africa’s ‘Big Five’ – lion, elephant, buffalo and leopard. These are the animals which most visitors to Africa seek out. For the more discerning game viewer, large herds of zebras and the occasional leopard sighting provide greater excitement, as do the numerous other antelope and more elusive species such as the wild dog.
CONSERVATION Efforts
Nature is our business, but it is also our love. Almost all of the passion we have for the business comes from the love of this nature, and the need to share its beauty with others.
Being river based one of our major efforts has been to prevent over fishing by large fisheries as well as the use of undersized nets that can have devastating effects on the fish populations of the Zambezi this is also why our camp has a firm catch and release policy.
Another great resource of our is our natural bush and trees, these are constantly under treat from loggers and charcoal makers. During your stay, try our Day Walking Safaris where we show you the importance of this natural habitat and not only what it means to the local insect, bird and animal life, but what it means to local village life.
Take the east exit out of Lusaka (GREAT EAST RD) heading towards Chongwe, your first goal is to get to Luangwa Bridge 227km from Lusaka.
Before the Luangwa Bridge you will find a market type environment with many traders, this is a good point of rendezvous if you are travelling in a convoy.
Just after the market take the main road to the right travel for 76km After marker 77 when the barrier ends you turn right onto a gravel road. Follow this road for 14kms till you get to the village of Kavalamanja our guides will meet you there
