Project Description
Funded by UNICEF and in collaboration with the Zambian Ministry of General Education, EDC will provide technical assistance to develop interactive audio instruction (IAI) programs, both the scripts and recorded audio, to expand the reach of continuity of learning to the most disadvantaged children in Zambia at primary level. The programs will focus on three core learning areas: literacy and language, mathematics and integrated science. The programs will be developed for primary grades 1-7 and the programs for grades 1-4 will be translated in to the seven local languages as adopted by the Zambia Education Curriculum Framework 2013.

Job Description
EDC is looking to hire 2 Luvale Translation Consultants as part of the production team. The consultants will work closely with ministry partners and scriptwriting team to translate Interactive Audio Instruction Programs for grades 1 – 4. Each consultant will translate English scripts into the local language – Luvale. The translation must be done in a way that maintains the core integrity of the script while assuring its cultural comprehension among local language speakers. This position reports to the Production Coordinator. This consultancy will be deliverables based with payment per translated script, not a daily rate.

Key functions of position include:
• Translate scripts for grades 1 – 4, 75 scripts per grade to be shared by 2 translators for each language, according to given schedules and meet deadlines;
• Work in close collaboration and cooperation with the production team, scriptwriters, and the Ministry of Education (MoGE) officials involved in the translation of programs;
• Participate in meetings with MoGE to validate the language of the scripts and make revisions as needed;
• Maintain records of scripts and master plans in electronic versions and hardcopies;
• Participate in technical meetings as needed;
• Perform others duties as assigned.

Qualifications
The Translation Consultants shall have at a minimum the following qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Arts, or any other relevant field.

Skills and Experience:
• Experience with writing, translation, revision or editing of content in Luvale;
• Experience working with Interactive Audio Instruction preferred;
• Experience of working in a team and in collaboration with the government;
• Experience with computer applications;
• Ability to handle concurrent activities, prioritize work, and work well under pressure;
• Proven skills in delivering work through efficient and effective planning.
Language:
The candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English and in Luvale.
