JOB DETAILS:
WWF-World Wide Fund for Nature is the world’s largest independent conservation organization, with close to five million supporters and a network active in more than 100 countries on five continents. Our mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature by conserving the world’s biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
WWF Zambia seeks to recruit a consultant to design and develop an Android based Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) data collection system, dashboard and database that can be used by local resource monitors to collect comprehensive HWC data for submission to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) in the Zambian component of the KAZA TFCA.
Background
HWC is one of the threats negatively affecting both wildlife and the people. As human populations increase and as conservation efforts become successful in reversing population declines in the mega faunal species that were experienced between 1980 to the early 2000s, the interaction of humans and wildlife is expected to increase, leading to increased HWC. Changes in climate change which affects the availability of food and water for both humans and wildlife is another hidden factor that is expected to contribute towards increasing HWC. Therefore, there is need to collect data to aid the undertaking of a local level scientific inquiry into social and environmental risk factors in addition to identification of HWC hotspots that will be crucial in the development and implementation of the best mitigation measures.
Objective
To design and develop an Android based HWC data collection system, dashboard and relational spatial database that can be used by local resource monitors to collect comprehensive HWC data for submission to DNPW (the attributes for this system will be prepared in conjunction with WWF and DNPW):
The spatial database should be able to store the collected information in such a way that it is easy to query, retrieve and analyze if needed during reporting to donors and partners based on WWF requirements and specific indicators. .

Key deliverables & suggested timeframes
1. Detailed proposal & budget with an emphasis on suggested methodologies and implementation plan (submitted by 5th February 2021)
2. Presentation to WWF and DNPW staff on methodology and implementation plan (completed by 8th February 2021).
3. HWC data collection system, dashboard, relational spatial database development & training of WWF Zambia staff (completed by 15th February 2021).
4. Spatial Database Management, Refinement and Reporting system (completed by 20th February 2021).
