JOB DETAILS:
• The General Manager (GM) will provide strategic operational oversight for all production, operating process for the plant and the retailing end of the process. In this role, you will oversee safety, quality, operational effectiveness and financial performance of the business. GM will lead strategic and tactical operations and quality management deliverables to ensure customer, product and quality standard requirements are met within specifications.
• Responsibilities:

Production Management
• Development and Management of Meat Blocks, including Costing, Selling prices and GP%.
• Ensuring and overseeing the production process to optimize profitability. GM has to take responsibility for production efficiency and cost – saving.
• Ensure that there is effective communication of the daily production plan between the Production Manager and his teams to ensure proper understanding of the assigned and agreed upon plan.
• Ensure adherence to HACCP procedures. Ensure all operating environments are food safe with all Hygiene requirements met.
• Ensure output meets quality standards and follows standardized agreed upon recipes. Further, GM has to ensure proper management of product handling and storage.
• Ensure proper management of deliveries and cold rooms – temperature controls/time schedules.
• Manage the product innovation pipeline in liaison with Retail Management and Sales and Marketing teams.
• Management, usage and operating of equipment, machinery & utensil including maintaining of service schedules and safety precautions.
• Increase company market share with the development of new competitive products.

Operations and Inventory Management
• Ensure and hold direct reports accountable for meeting and controlling operating expenses and established targets.
• Oversee the overall operational management and implement operational efficiency improvements which may include standardization of plant information, production systems, quality control, safety, production reliability excellence and maintenance and operator’s best practices.
• Conduct the required checks from time to time to ensure relevant data is recorded correctly and shared with relevant departments.
• Lead and direct the operating budgets for the production and the plant to achieve medium term outlook financial performance objectives set by the business.
• In Liaison with Retail Management, develop butchery model stocking levels benchmarked against sales.
• In liaison with the Retail Management, ensure all outlets have all the necessary trading licenses and meet all legal requirements to operate.
• Oversee the dispatch process in order to manage the stock replenishment cycles ensuring optimal stocking levels.
• Monitor and measure stock outs.
• Measure supplier service levels to ensure on time in full deliveries.
• Ensure cold chain requirements and other storage conditions are met for all products.
• Ensure weekly and ad-hock stock takes are being done.
• Entrench good stock management systems such as FIFO at the Distribution Center and in the butcheries.
• Coordinate the seeding process for new products.
• Manage the process of product returns.
• Management of Shrinkage and Mark down controls.
• Responsible for ensuring high class packaging, storage and effective management of expiry dates.
• Work with Marketing and advise Management on marketing requirements and promotions.
• Ensure all plant processes or activities are documented through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

People and Training Management
• Lead and develop a team, coach and make decisions related to talent management, hiring, performance, and disciplinary actions.
• Continually assess the technical competences of the team and take steps to develop their knowledge and skills.
• Determine areas of improvement and institute changes to address concerns.
• Train the Regional Managers and Area Managers and ensure they in turn deliver training to their teams where appropriate.
• Ensure and oversee the training of Production staff in the use of equipment, production process to ensure quality and standardization is maintained.
• Prepare and manage the relevant Operational and Capex budgets.

Education or Training Requirements: –
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Management or related field or equivalent in experience with a Diploma in Meat Processing.
• Meat production qualification will be an added advantage.
• 10 years’ work experience, preferably in the Meat Industry
• Knowledge of HACCP/ ISO 22000/ ISO 9000 principles
• At least 5 years as General Manager
• Required computer literacy levels in Microsoft functions covering excel, word and
• Strong understanding of Retailing Management
• Readily adjusts schedule, tasks, and priorities when necessary to meet business needs
• Should have high integrity and be honest/trustworthy
• Able to coordinate multiple-tasks and manage pressure.

Other Duties
• Each Mika Meats employee will ensure that all Mika Meats Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to within their area of operations.
Each Mika Meats employee will assist the Business Development Manager in getting new business & maintaining existing clients
Each Mika Meats employee will ensure that all Mika Meats Human Resources Policies and Procedures are adhered to within their area of operation
Each Mika Meats employee is responsible for Mika Meats public relations with the clients, client’s employees, visitors, suppliers, Mika Meats is desirous to maintain a good relationship with its employees and sister Companies in the Group.
IT Management – Mika Meats has invested in IT for all its Operations and we have various IT employees to maintain the equipment. Each Mika Employee must oversee the IT equipment in his department and ensure it follows Mika Meats IT policies and procedures at all times.
