JOB DETAILS:
Health and Safety Officer
Responsibilities
• Conduct safety & health audits in on site ; Pits, Workshops, Washing Plant ,Mine Camp and other areas.
• Identify hazards, near misses and ensure corrective actions are put in place.
• Ensure blasting and other health and safety procedures are adhered to all the time.
• Provide site safety & health coaching to employees and supervisors to enhance awareness
• Work closely with departmental Supervisors to ensure timely closure of corrective actions
• Review the effectiveness of the corrective actions and provide feedback appropriately
• Conduct, inductions/orientation, risk assessment, fire-fighting and other related safety trainings.
• Conduct site accident investigations and make sure all fatalities, Lost Time Injuries, near-misses are fully investigated and closed-out.
• Ensure there is readable signage in the pit and the camp area and maintain a database of all safety statistics.
• Ensure all fire fighting equipment is serviced and installed in appropriate areas.
• Ensure all first aid equipment is inspected at least once every month.
• Ensure that weekly tool box talks are prepared and distributed to all sections and follow up to ensure compliance by all.
• Ensure high levels of industrial hygiene on site.
• Any other duties as assigned by the superior.
3. Minimal competencies required for the job
• Professional and/or technical competencies:
• Degree/Diploma in Health & Safety Management.
• Minimum five (5) years practical work experience in the mining environment.
• Knowledge of OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
• Basic Supervisory training skills and computer literacy
• Ability to write technical reports
• Qualification in Engineering related fields will be an added advantage.
• Valid driving license and silicosis certificate
