Job description:
Purpose
The reliability superintendent is crucial in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of heavy mining equipment and machinery. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and reliability programs for equipment used in open-pit mining operations. The incumbent will manage and improve the maintenance and reliability programs for the equipment and machinery used in open-pit mining operations. This role minimises downtime, enhances equipment performance and reliability, and ensures safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
• The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Reliability Improvement: Develop and implement strategies to enhance the reliability of equipment, ensuring continuous and efficient operation. Drive root cause failure analysis program on reliability incidents to identify and correct physical, human, and latent root causes especially for chronic reliability problems
• Preventive Maintenance: Establish and manage preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unexpected breakdowns and extend equipment life
• Equipment Inspections: Conduct regular inspections and assessments of equipment to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions
• Asset Management: Monitor equipment performance, evaluate equipment health, and make data-driven decisions to optimize asset management
• Team Management: Lead a team of maintenance professionals, including technicians and engineers, to ensure that maintenance and reliability goals are met
• Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and environmental standards
• Budgeting and Cost Control: Develop and manage maintenance budgets, control costs, and identify opportunities for cost savings
• Data Analysis: Develop data systems to enable data analytics. Use data analysis and predictive maintenance techniques to forecast equipment failures and take proactive measures to prevent them
• Vendor and Contractor Management: Collaborate with equipment suppliers and contractors to procure parts, services, and expertise for maintenance and repairs.

Qualifications
• Grade 12 Certificate
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Professional Registered member of the EIZ and ERB.
• Experience: Several years of experience in maintenance and reliability management, with a significant portion of that experience in open-pit mining. In-depth understanding of open-pit mining equipment, maintenance practices, and reliability improvement techniques in various Mining equipment found on site, including shovels, haul trucks, Drill Rigs etc.
• Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills to lead and motivate a team of maintenance professionals
• Analytical skills: Proficiency in data analysis, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance tools and techniques.
• Budgeting: Proficient in developing and managing maintenance budgets, controlling costs and setting up life cycle costing models.
• Communication: Effective communication skills for coordinating with various stakeholders, including maintenance teams, engineers, and management.
• Problem solving: The ability to analyse complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.
• Relevant Reliability certifications and qualification will be an advantage
• Must have a current driver’s license.

Experience
• Minimum 15 years maintenance experience in the Mining/Construction, with 10 years in leadership roles. At least 5 years working as a superintendent with a proven track record.

• Communication: Communicate effectively with team members, management, and external stakeholders. Clear and concise communication is essential for ensuring everyone understands maintenance goals and progress
• Adaptability: Be adaptable to changing conditions, such as unexpected equipment failures or evolving maintenance strategies, and adjust plans accordingly
• Data Driven Decision Making: Make informed decisions based on data analysis and predictive maintenance tools, leveraging technology for better reliability management
• Continues Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement, seeking opportunities to enhance equipment performance, reduce maintenance costs, and extend asset life
• Conflict Resolution : Possess conflict resolution skills to address interpersonal conflicts within the maintenance team or between different departments, ensuring a harmonious work environment
• Training and Development: Invest in the professional development of team members, providing training and guidance to enhance their skills and knowledge in maintenance and reliability
• Documentation and record keeping: Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, maintenance activities, and repairs, which can be valuable for analysis and compliance purposes

Operational Requirements
• Exposure to dust, heat and noise
• Advance PC skills and database experience
• An understanding of relevant legislation, policies, equipment and procedures.
