The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and governments of other countries.
Under the Green Innovation Centres for the Agriculture and Food Sector project in Zambia (part of the Special Initiative ONE WORLD – No Hunger), GIZ provides support to the dairy value chain in Zambia’s Southern Province focusing on small-scale dairy farmers and their cooperatives. Key thematic areas are: animal husbandry and dairy management, feeding regimes and fodder production; breeding of dairy cows; access to financial services and access to markets. Cooperatives also play a major role in the chosen development approach. They receive support in developing cooperative-run enterprises reaching beyond milk collection by tapping into additional product and service requirements of their members such as fodder, dairy animals and training. The produced milk is mainly sold to the formal market. A small amount is processed locally into yogurt and ice cream. Through a newly added thematic focus (extension module) on animal health, increased importance will be given to issues related to dairy animal health and production management. This topic shall be tackled in a holistic approach focusing on: (1) Prevention of diseases through good dairy farming practices and (2) diagnostic and treatment of diseases.
By improving farmers’ skills and knowledge in dairy farming, the project aims to improve productivity and income levels as well as to prepare farmers to better cope with external threats. Of utmost importance is it, to get information and knowledge to the respective stakeholders in an understandable and smart way.
The project is, therefore, seeking to recruit the following on a fixed-term contract:
Advisor: Communications and outreach advisor (based in Choma)
REF: GIZ_GIC_COO_CHOM.

  Job Responsibilities:
Design of the communications and outreach strategy
• Design the overall communications and outreach strategy towards/with small-scale dairy farmers, cooperatives and other relevant target group actors in the Southern Province
• Develop attractive, understandable, clear info material and distribution channels
• Close coordination with other stakeholder such as the MoFL, MoA, training institutes, etc.
• Support the team in all PR related questions ion general
Development of a radio show
• Provide conceptual input and orientation for the development of a radio programme
• Design a communication strategy for the radio show suitable for the profile of the target group
• Close collaboration with radio broadcaster(s) in the concept development and design of the episodes
• Organising the necessary technical experts for content development (both from within the team and external) and input
Introduction and development of e-extension services
• Together with subject matter experts from the team, provide guidance on the development of ICT based e-extension services suitable for the target group
• Design communication strategies and develop content for the selected ICT tools
Improvement of training materials in terms of communication concept
• Provide input on improving the knowledge delivery through printed training materials
• Develop good practices for print training materials
• Improve existing training materials and develop posters, display materials and teaching aid were necessary


  Job Skills:

• the ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical and target group relevant approaches
• excellent didactic and instructional skills and knowledge on adult learning concepts
• excellent networking skills, communication and writing skills
• a good understanding of the behaviour change theory
• good organisational skills
• excellent interpersonal skills and to be a very good team player
• very good working knowledge of ITC technologies and PC applications
• a good understanding of the Government’s structures
• graphic design expertise is an advantage
• fluent in English and in Tonga

• University degree in communications, mass communications, public relations, communications for development, adult learning or related subject


Job Experience Requirements:
• 2 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
• 1 year experience in the agricultural sector
• Proven experience in radio show development
• Proven experience in ICT for development
• Proven experience in designing training materials
