Background
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 20 national parks and protected areas in 11 countries covering over 17 million hectares in: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe

Job Purpose
The Building Team Leader oversees build site operations, reporting to the Building Supervisor. This is an integral link between Management and ground operations. The positions’ responsibility is primarily focused infrastructure development, maintenance and repairs, but is expected to assist in other technical area. A summary of responsibilities is as follows:

Main tasks and responsibilities:
1. Park Infrastructure Management:
1. Oversee infrastructure works projects, liaising with building contractors and consultants, and providing logistical support a required
2. Develops and implements an ongoing preventative management program for all infrastructure
2. Tools, Equipment and Materials Management
1. Management of all Tools and Equipment allocated to an exceptionally high standard, that all items are accounted for, maintained and defects reported to the Building Supervisor
2. Ensures vehicles and motorised equipment allocated to build projects are well maintained and any defects reported to the Building Supervisor
3. Maintains an extremely high standard of stock control for machinery, equipment and tools
4. Assist in the development of BOQs, Tools and Equipment needs for build site optimisation
5. Maintains a reasonable stock of materials and spares tools, avoiding over acquisition
6. Provides asset management support to KNP Departments, Partners and Stakeholders as and when required, and as per pre-agreed KNP contracts
3. Staff Management and Supervision
1. Day to day management of staff under his/her supervision, setting tasks and overseeing these, ensuring exemplary work standards, maintain staff discipline through the company’s code of conduct and conditions of service, and overseeing general staff related administration
2. Identifying training needs and implementing in house training
3. Works Contractors related to all of the above functions
4. Implementation of day to day maintenance, operational tasks and special projects as determined by management
5. Overseeing all building operations in the absence of the Building Manager, as delegated

Minimum requirements, capabilities, competencies and experience needed for the job
• Three years of demonstrable building supervisory experience across all technical areas
• A strong leader, who can persevere, with excellent people management skills and an ability to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Exceptional knowledge of building management and maintenance with a specific focus on electrical, plumbing and carpentry
• Excellent organisational skills and an ability to manage several tasks at one time
• Thrive under pressure and can work towards strict deadlines
• A disciplined character, willing to work long hours in a remote environment, with limited resources
• Ability to problem solve, make do with what one has to solve often complicated problems
• Excellent communication skills with fluency English (written and spoken)
• Good team player and experience in managing teams

The Building Supervisor is a key member of the Kafue National Park (KNP) team, playing an integral role as a link between Management, Team Leaders and on the ground operations. The positions’ responsibility primarily focuses on immovable asset development, maintenance and repairs, but is expected to assist in other technical area. A summary of responsibilities is as follows:

Main tasks and responsibilities:
1. Park Infrastructure Management:
1. The management and maintenance of all building facilities
2. The management and maintenance of radio towers and associated infrastructure
3. The management and maintenance of the airstrips and aircraft hangar
4. Oversee infrastructure works projects, liaising with building contractors and consultants, and providing logistical support a required
5. Develops and implements an ongoing preventative management program for all infrastructure
2. Workshop Stores – Infrastructure
1. Maintains an extremely high standard of stock control for machinery, equipment and tools
2. Assist in the procurement of stock and materials, attempting to acquire the best products for the best price
3. Maintains a reasonable stock of spares tools, avoiding over acquisition
4. Manages the workshop store stock with a strict appreciation for financial control
3. Asset Management: Other
1. Ensures vehicles and motorised equipment allocated to build projects are well maintained and any defects reported to the Workshop Manager
2. Assists the workshop when required in the maintenance of vehicles, boats, machinery, tools and equipment
3. Provides asset management support to KNP Departments, Partners and Stakeholders as and when required, and as per pre-agreed KNP contracts
4. Staff Management and Supervision
1. Day to day management of staff under his/her supervision, setting tasks and overseeing these, ensuring exemplary work standards, maintain staff discipline through the company’s code of conduct and conditions of service, and overseeing general staff related administration
2. Liaison with Human Resources to ensure all staff details and documentation is complete and up to date.
3. Identifying training needs and implementing in house training
4. Works Contractors related to all of the above functions
5. Implementation of day to day maintenance, operational tasks and special projects as determined by management
6. Overseeing all building operations in the absence of the Building Manager, as delegated

Minimum requirements, capabilities, competencies and experience needed for the job
• Three years of demonstrable building management experience across all technical areas – a formal qualification will be an added advantage
• Excellent organisational skills and an ability to manage several tasks at one time
• Exceptional knowledge of building management and maintenance
• Thrive under pressure and can work towards strict deadlines
• A disciplined character, willing to work long hours in a remote environment, with limited resources
• Ability to problem solve, make do with what one has to solve often complicated problems
• A strong leader, who can persevere, with excellent people management skills and an ability to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
• Good computer and report writing skills will be an added advantage
• Good team player and experience in managing teams
