The Tropical Diseases Research Centre and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Healthy Learners will conduct a study to understand the feasibility of implementing school-based vaccination checks to identify and vaccinate children with missing vaccination doses. The results of this study will help inform the government policy on school immunization programs in Zambia and the rest of the world. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons who are self-motivated and result oriented to fill the following vacancies:

Principal Scientific Officer (Medical Doctor)
Qualifications
• Full Grade Twelve or Form Five Certificate
• MBChB or MBBS with at least ten (10) years practicing experience
• PhD in Clinical Epidemiology/Clinical Trials/Public Health/Medical Sciences
• Member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia(HPCZ) and holder of a valid practicing license.
• Registered Health Researcher with the National Health Research Authority

Experience Requirements
• Minimum ten(10) years at senior level in medical scientific research
• Demonstrated ability to initiate/practice in collaborative research
• Must demonstrate experience in strategic planning, project planning, development, execution and evaluation
• Demonstrate research experience and leadership as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals/reviewer of proposals/research grants
• Experience in supervision of scientists and ability to mobilise resources and establish sustainable working relations with national and international research and funding organizations

Main Duties
• To carry out research and other assignments as directed by the Head of Department or the Director
• To formulate and write research proposals including clinical trials
• To supervise or facilitate and take part in data collection, carry out data analysis and report writing
• Manage subordinates research and administrative activities as assigned by the Head of Department

Scientific Officer (Medical Doctor)

Qualifications
• MBChB or MBBS with at least two years practicing experience
• Grade Twelve School Certificate or its equivalent
• Fully registered with the Health Professions Council of Zambia(HPCZ)
• Fully registered with the Health Research Authority (NHRA)
• MSc in Tropical Medicine, Pharmacology or equivalent will be an added advantage
• Willing to undertake postgraduate training

Experience Requirement
• Not less than two years of health research experience

Main Duties
• To carry out all research activities in the Department as assigned by the Head of Department or the Director
• Clinical Management of patients on research projects and in the TDRC
• Clinic Participate in the formulation and writing of research grants
• Manage subordinates research and administrative activities as assigned by the Head of Department

Job Purpose: To assist the Manager Clinical Services to run the day-to-day operations of the mine clinic efficient and effectual

Principle Accountabilities
• Able to take comprehensive medical history, conduct though physical examination and order appropriate complementary investigations
• Keep medical/general records related to the running of the clinic with confidentiality
• Diagnose and manage all stages of illness in accordance with relevant standard treatment guidelines and other national protocols ability to perform minor surgical procedures
• Counsel patients on various matters such as HIV/AIDS, excessive beer drinking smoking and communicable diseases as they relate to good health to ensure higher standard of health at the mine site.
• Ability to plan and implement health promotion activities and carrying out Information, education and communication (LE.C) on health matters to employees
• Gather, analyse medical data, and timely generate reports to management, Prepares and participates in the preparation of work plans to ensure smooth running of the clinic

Qualifications & Experience
• Grade 12 certificate Degree/Diploma in Clinical Services/Medicine At least 1-2 years' of experience in a busy mining environment and ability to work under pressure.
• Training in basic life support is an added advantage Practical experience in any medical related software application
• Must be fully registered with HPCZ and hold a current practicing certificate
• Good computer skills. Excellent analytical and evaluation skills
• Good command of both oral and written English for effective communication Possession of good leadership skills and team player
• Ability to work with minimum supervision. Excellent knowledge of the current labour regulations
