The Zambia Environmental Management Agency's (ZEMA) mandate is drawn from the Environmental Management Act (EMA) No.12 of 2011. ZEMA plays a regulatory, advisory, consultative, monitoring, co-ordination and information dissemination role on all environmental issues in Zambia.
Being an equal opportunity employer, ZEMA is in the process of filling its staff establishment in the Inspectorate department and is therefore looking for competent and experienced persons to fill the position above.

Reporting to the Principal Geographical Information System & Remote Sensing Officer.

JOB PURPOSE
To promote and develop geographical information and remote sensing activities, at the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.

QUALIFICATIONS
Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent
A relevant BSc. Degree in information systems/degree in computer science, BSc Geography or its equivalent from a recognized university. An additional postgraduate qualification in GIS and remote sensing related field will be an added advantage. Must be computer literate.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The candidate must be a Zambian who is a self-starter, goal-oriented person with demonstrated ability to perform to the highest level, with minimum supervision. The candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing ande possess excellent interpersonal skills and high ethical standards.

DUTIES
Main duties include:
• Manages licensing information system (LIS) and the geographical information systems (GIS) and promotes the acquisition, storage and dissemination of relevant environmental information (both spatial and non-spatial data sets and databases/systems) at ZEMA.
• Identifies environmental data by conducting user needs assessment of environmental information both for the inspectorate at ZEMA and stakeholder institutions
• Ensures provision of technical support to the inspectorate for database usage, such as queries, analysis and synthesis of data into environmental information for presentation and dissemination.
• Assists in preparing annual work plan and budget for the unit, monthly, quarterly, half yearly and annual reports and submits same to relevant officers
• Establishes, under guidelines of the manager ICT, policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure common data architecture in Zambia and the preparation of specifications to upgrade key environmental data sets, as the development of a common data dictionary
• Plans and supervises activities under own jurisdiction,
• Assists in maintaining the ZEMA website to provide stakeholders with the latest information, which include environmental impacts assessments (EIAS), EMA and its regulations, application forms, etc.
• Supervises, trains and motivates subordinates to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
• Performs other related functions, as and when required
