GMH funds and convenes partners who work at the international, national, and local level to make sure all actors are working together toward the shared goal of curbing methane pollution in the most efficient way possible.
We fund and convene organizations that are reducing methane on the ground in the best way for their communities, serve as a central hub for information about methane mitigation, and advocate for free data sharing.
Anchor heading for mission-vision
Our Mission
Accelerate action by governments, civil society, researchers, investors, and the private sector to develop and implement strategies that will catalyze rapid systemic reductions in methane emissions in the energy, agriculture, and waste sectors.
Our Vision
A world where a dramatic reduction of methane emissions by 2030, coupled with rapidly decreasing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, keeps global warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius, averting climate catastrophe and bringing social, environmental, health, and economic benefits to communities, cities, and countries.

GMH Values
All people deserve safe air, clean water, and sufficient food. Global warming is creating an unlivable environment for us all and methane is a dangerous contributor to climate change. Global Methane Hub is working to reduce global methane emissions 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2050, on a baseline of 2010 levels. GMH catalyzes systems-level change as a connector, funder, educator, and advocate working quickly to fund organizations that are mitigating methane on the ground in the best way for their communities. We believe that public awareness and field building are the most effective ways to communicate this crucial effort to the populations who can make the biggest impact. Sitting at the nexus of philanthropy, NGOs, policy, media, and academia, our priority is to bring leaders together to share knowledge and best practices, and ensure that they have the funds and resources necessary to execute impactful initiatives. We serve as a central hub for information about methane mitigation and advocate for free data sharing.
We drive this work forward with these core values as our guiding principles.
Equity
We believe equity, diversity, and inclusion are integral to the impact we seek. Thus, we value equity, diversity, and inclusion in all that we do, starting with building and maintaining a team that reflects the world we aim to serve and ensuring that our programs and initiatives are accessible, inclusive, and benefit all communities, with special considerations for communities that have been traditionally marginalized.
Integrity
We strive to uphold the highest ethical standards in our work, promoting transparency, honesty, and accountability in all of our actions. We rely on robust scientific research and evidence-based approaches to inform our strategies and interventions, ensuring the highest level of expertise in methane mitigation. We believe that fostering a culture of openness enables us to build stronger connections with our stakeholders, while maintaining the utmost respect for the privacy and interests of other organizations.
Humility
We believe that we will achieve more impact when we collaborate across sectors, borders and stakeholder groups. We value diverse perspectives and trust that people know what is best for their communities. We approach our work with respect for the deep subject matter and cultural expertise of the organizations and stakeholders we engage with globally, collaborating to drive collective action and achieve meaningful impact.
Agility
We foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation, seeking creative and sustainable solutions to mitigate methane emissions. We are responsive to the evolving needs and challenges associated with that work, continuously adapting, and refining our approaches to maximize effectiveness.
Care
We care about our planet and all life on it. As a funder, we care about our grantees. As a hub, we care about our partners. And as colleagues, we care about each other. We believe that caring teaches us to be patient, loyal, and to understand others, all of which are crucial when working in a complex and highly sensitive and political field.
