  • Worldwide, more than 800 million people live in absolute poverty. Many of them lack access to food, shelter, education, health facilities, social services, protection and decent work opportunities. Hunger, child labor, forced marriage, discrimination, violence, conflict and insecurity are problems that the poor in Africa, Asia, Latin America and elsewhere are particularly affected by. Their situation is often aggravated by new risks and challenges brought about by climate change and resource depletion, including low soil productivity, desertification and natural disasters.
  • Trillions of dollars have gone into development aid over recent decades as a result of the action and generosity of various governments, development banks and agencies, foundations, and donor organizations. But how effective are development programs in helping the poor and vulnerable? Which interventions work, which do not, and how can they be improved? Rigorous, objective and neutral impact evaluations offer answers. They allow measurement of net impacts of development programs, and therefore carry huge potential for advancement and achieving higher social impact.
  • Vision
C4ED’s vision is to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable by making development interventions more effective.
    Mission
C4ED is a non-profit research center and registered charity that aims to bridge the gap between research and practice in global development. C4ED conducts impact evaluations and pilots innovative solutions. It also builds capacities, advises and supports its partners, and disseminates evidence what works for whom, when, why and under which circumstances.

C4ED’s goal is to lift people out of poverty, to reduce vulnerability and to foster sustainable development solutions through scientifically supported impact evaluations and innovative programs. As an independent research center, C4ED guarantees objective and high-quality evaluations and analysis.

C4ED accompanies programs and projects through all stages, from the designing and piloting phase to scaling up, with impact evaluation, scientific analysis and capacity building. In addition, C4ED supports and conducts its own pilot projects.

    C4ED’s four-pronged approach:

    Our impact

From pilot to scale-up we accompany development projects through all the phases. In addition to conducting rigorous impact evaluations we endeavor to build capacities and disseminate policy evidence. Read here about how one of our evaluations led to the scale-up of a health insurance system, impacting not only on insurance coverage but also on child labor reduction.
