As we scale our payments and merchant ecosystem, we are seeking a high-performing, execution-driven professional to lead our agency banking, POS deployment and merchant acquisition strategy.
JOB BRIEF
The Agency Banking, POS Enablement & Merchant Services Officer will be responsible for building, managing and scaling eShandi’s agent network, merchant base and POS infrastructure.
This role is critical to driving transaction volumes, revenue growth and last-mile financial inclusion by enabling businesses and agents to accept payments and offer financial services through eShandi’s platform.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Agency Banking & Network Expansion
- Recruit, onboard and manage a nationwide network of agents
- Drive Agent Activation, liquidity management and performance
- Develop agent engagement, training and retention programs
- Monitor agent transactions and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
POS Enablement & Deployment
- Lead the rollout and management of POS terminals across key markets
- Identify high-potential locations and merchant segments for POS deployment
- Ensure uptime, usage optimization and operational efficiency of devices
- Work closely with technical teams on integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Merchant Acquisition & Relationship Management
- Acquire and onboard SMEs and enterprise merchants onto eShandi’s payment platform
- Drive adoption of POS, QR and digital payment solutions
- Build strong relationships with merchants to increase transaction volumes and retention
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling lending, insurance and other financial products
Business Growth & Performance
- Achieve monthly targets for agent growth, merchant acquisition and transaction volumes
- Analyze performance data and optimize strategies for scale
- Collaborate with partnerships, product, and marketing teams to drive ecosystem growth
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all agents and merchants meet KYC/AML requirements
- Monitor fraud risks and implement controls within the network
- Maintain adherence to Bank of Zambia regulations and internal policies
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in: Agency banking;
POS/payments/merchant acquiring; Fintech, banking, or telecoms
Proven track record in merchant acquisition and network expansion
Strong understanding of digital payments, mobile money and financial services ecosystems
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong sales and business development skills
- Data-driven decision-making and performance tracking
- Excellent relationship management and negotiation skills
- Operational execution and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Tech & AI Competency (Highly Preferred)
- Experience using AI tools such as: ChatGPT / Claude (for reporting, analysis, communication); CRM and sales automation tools; Data dashboards (e.g. Excel, Power BI, Google Data Studio)
- Ability to leverage technology to improve productivity, reporting and decision-making
