Liebherr Zambia Limited is inviting applications for its Apprenticeship Programme, which is designed to develop highly skilled technicians for Zambia’s mining and construction industries.

The programme combines structured learning with practical industry experience, giving apprentices the opportunity to develop their technical skills and build a career with Liebherr Zambia.

It forms part of a strategic partnership between Liebherr Zambia and Fountain Gate Crafts and Trades School (FGCATS) to support the development of skilled technical talent for Zambia’s mining sector.

Responsibilities or duties

Learning & Development

  • Actively participate in classroom training, practical workshops, on-the-job learning, and competency assessments.
  • Develop knowledge of Liebherr products, systems, technologies, processes, and maintenance methodologies.
  • Seek guidance and coaching from mentors, supervisors, and qualified technicians.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement through skills development and professional growth.
  • Progress toward becoming a competent and independent technician within the apprenticeship program

Technical Maintenance & Repairs

  • Participate in on-the-job training activities at Liebherr operations and customer sites.
  • Assist technicians and specialists in carrying out planned, preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities on Liebherr equipment.
  • Participate in major and minor equipment services as directed by supervisors, mentors, and qualified technicians.
  • While under supervision, perform pre-service, post-service, pre-repair, and post-repair inspections, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Report findings and recommend corrective actions to supervisors and technical personnel.

Component Rebuild & Remanufacturing

  • Work under supervision to clean, dismantle, inspect, repair, reassemble, and test components.
  • Operate remanufacturing tools and workshop equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Support components rebuild activities while maintaining required quality standards.
  • Follow work instructions, technical specifications, and quality procedures throughout the remanufacturing process.
  • Ensure completed components meet performance and reliability standards before installation or release.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all Liebherr safety policies, procedures, and Safe Work Practices.
  • Conduct all work activities in compliance with site safety standards, environmental requirements, and legislative regulations.
  • Participate in risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox meetings, and safety observations.
  • Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) correctly and consistently.

  • Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering Technology, Other related technical disciplines
  • Strong academic record with proven ability to learn, apply technical concepts, and achieve results.
  • Actively participate in classroom training, practical workshops, on-the-job learning, and competency assessments.
