BACKGROUND

The National Archives of Zambia is a statutory body established under the National Archives Act, Chapter 47 of the Laws of Zambia. Its mandate is to preserve and make accessible the documentary heritage of Zambia. The institution is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Chief Librarian.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Librarian will be responsible for the overall management and administration of the National Archives of Zambia Library services. Key duties include:

• Developing and implementing library policies and procedures.
• Managing the acquisition, cataloguing, classification, and preservation of library resources.
• Providing reference and information services to users.
• Supervising and training library staff.
• Managing the library budget and resources.
• Promoting library services and outreach activities.
• Collaborating with other institutions and stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience:

• A Master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, with at least three (3) years in a senior management position in a library setting.
• Proven experience in library management, collection development, cataloguing, and classification.
• Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of library management systems and digital library technologies.
• Must be a Zambian citizen.
