About The Youth Platform
The Youth Platform (TYP) is a regional youth-led network that amplifies young people’s voices, strengthens youth movements, and promotes meaningful youth participation in social, economic and political development.
Through advocacy, leadership development, community engagement and youth empowerment, TYP works to ensure adolescents and young people are seen, heard, protected and included in decision-making spaces.
The role
The IT Personnel volunteer is responsible for providing technical support, maintaining office systems, and ensuring the secure and efficient use of technology across the organization. It’s a hands-on role for someone who enjoys keeping both people and systems running smoothly — and a real chance to build professional IT experience.
What you’ll do
Technical support
- Respond to staff IT requests and troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
- Provide AV support for meetings and events.
Network & systems
- Manage the LAN, WiFi, routers and VPN.
- Help manage, monitor and maintain the organization’s internal systems — including email, data backups and shared drives.
- Ensure regular backups and reliable system recovery.
Software & hardware
- Install and update systems and software, and manage licenses.
- Set up new workstations and maintain the IT inventory.
- Liaise with vendors for procurement and repairs.
Security
- Implement antivirus, firewalls and access controls.
- Monitor for cyber threats and ensure organizational data is protected.
Planning
- Advise management on IT upgrades.
- Ensure all office devices are in good working order.
Who we’re looking for
The ideal volunteer
- Studying towards, or holding, a certificate, diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, Networking or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows, common software, printers and AV equipment.
- Working knowledge of networking (LAN, WiFi, routers, VPN) and basic cybersecurity (antivirus, firewalls, backups, access control).
- Organized, reliable and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Good communication skills and patience when supporting non-technical colleagues.
- Based in, or able to reliably work on-site from, Choma.
What you’ll gain
- Hands-on experience running IT for a regional organization.
- Exposure to networking, security, systems administration and vendor management.
- Mentorship, a reference and a portfolio of real work.
- A meaningful role contributing your skills to a youth-led movement.
- Respond to staff IT requests and troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
