Background

Mary’s Meals International in Zambia operates a school feeding programme across 17 districts in the Eastern and Northern Provinces, reaching more than 720,000 learners in 1,574 schools. By providing a daily meal in a place of education, Mary’s Meals encourages children affected by poverty and hunger to attend school and gain an education that can help break the cycle of poverty.

Globally, Mary’s Meals provides nutritious daily meals to more than 3 million children across 16 countries, supporting access to education and creating brighter futures for children living in some of the world’s poorest communities.

We are now recruiting for a Media and Content Officer – Communications to join our team. Reporting to the Media and Content Manager, the successful candidate will support storytelling, media engagement, content development, and digital communications to strengthen awareness, visibility, and engagement around the work of Mary’s Meals Zambia and the global family.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, media houses, and other key media stakeholders
  • Coordinate press releases, media advisories, interviews, and media engagements across radio, television, print, and digital platforms
  • Secure and support positive media coverage for organisational programmes, campaigns, and advocacy initiatives
  • Develop scripts and coordinate the production of radio and television programmes, interviews, and feature stories
  • Create, manage, and upload engaging multimedia content, including videos, podcasts, interviews, and audio stories for platforms such as YouTube and SoundCloud
  • Ensure all media and communication content aligns with organisational branding, messaging, safeguarding standards, and advocacy objectives
  • Monitor audience engagement and analyse content performance to improve reach, visibility, and impact across digital platforms
  • Organise press conferences, media briefings, and interviews during key campaigns, events, and donor visits
  • Provide media and communications support during advocacy activities, stakeholder engagements, and field events
  • Track media coverage, social media performance, and communication trends, and prepare monthly reports with insights and recommendations for improvement

About you

You are a creative storyteller with a strong eye for detail and the ability to communicate impact across diverse audiences. You are confident working across teams, managing deadlines, and producing engaging multimedia content for both mainstream and digital platforms.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Marketing, or another related field
  • At least 3 years’ experience in content creation and social media management
  • Strong communication and media relations skills
  • Experience in audio and video production and editing
  • Basic graphic design and video editing skills (Canva and Adobe Suite preferred)
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and analytics tools
  • Ability to craft compelling stories for diverse audiences
  • Strong crisis communication and reputation management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure
  • Key experience in storytelling, digital communications, and multimedia content production across both traditional and digital media platforms. Experience working within an NGO or development sector environment will be an added advantage
