Key Accountabilities for Registered Nurse Jobs in Ndola

• Adhere strictly to MBHS policies and the Zambian nursing scope of practice to ensure consistent, high standards of care.
• Deliver nursing care that is ethical, compassionate, professional, and respectful to all patients at all times.
• Demonstrate competency across various clinical areas including triage, outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services.
• Maintain up-to-date nursing knowledge and skills to perform duties effectively.
• Be accessible and available for shift work as rostered, ensuring continuous patient care.

Core Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and hygienic work environment aligned with MBHS Healthcare Standards.
• Triage patients promptly and prioritize care according to MBHS protocols.
• Conduct physical examinations including vital signs, blood smear testing, and health histories for all new patients.
• Document nursing care and patient observations accurately and legibly, ensuring effective handovers during shift changes.
• Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans based on assessments, collaborating closely with attending doctors.
• Support medical doctors during clinical procedures and escalate any changes in patient condition immediately.
• Administer medications and injections safely, adhering to the five rights of medication administration and documenting all interventions.
• Monitor medication stock levels and clinical equipment, reporting any issues promptly.
• Respond swiftly to emergencies, involving medical doctors or on-call personnel as needed.
• Ensure all patient documentation, including consent forms, care plans, and discharge summaries, is securely maintained within medical files.
• Plan and coordinate patient discharge processes, liaising with general practitioners and pharmacists.
• Provide emotional support and counselling to patients and families following critical diagnoses or bereavement.
• Mentor junior nursing staff under the guidance of the Unit Leader.
• Promote health education and infection control practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Comply with all national legal and regulatory requirements governing nursing practice.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Registered Nursing or equivalent qualification recognized in Zambia.
• Current practising licence issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ).
• Minimum of two years’ experience as a registered nurse.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to ethical nursing practice.
• Proficiency with computer systems and electronic documentation.
