Job Purpose:
To construct, extend, and repair structures and surfaces made of brick, block, stone, and other masonry materials. The Bricklayer is responsible for creating durable and aesthetically pleasing structures according to project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other types of building blocks in mortar to construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, chimneys, and other structures.
  • Read and interpret plans, drawings, and sketches to calculate materials required.
  • Measure and cut bricks or blocks to fit around windows, doors, and other openings.
  • Mix mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer and spread it onto foundations and bricks.
  • Use tools like trowels, levels, hammers, chisels, and power saws.
  • Align structures vertically and horizontally using levels and plumb bobs.
  • Clean and polish surfaces with hand or power tools.
  • Ensure work is plumb, level, square, and to the correct gauge.
  • Waterproof structures and fill expansion joints with caulking materials.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Bricklayer (apprenticeship or 2-4 years of experience).
  • Ability to read blueprints and architectural drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of mixing and applying various types of mortar.
  • Excellent understanding of building principles and safety standards.
  • Good physical condition, stamina, and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
