Position Overview

Zanaco Bank Plc is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in the Finance Division under the Finance Division at Head Office – Support Functions:

Role Description

Job Purpose: To work closely with the Head of Asset, Liability & Balance Sheet Management (ALM) to lead, develop, and execute the Bank’s strategy relating to asset and liability management, capital optimization, liquidity management, and interest rate risk mitigation. The role ensures that the Bank’s balance sheet is structured to maximize profitability, maintain regulatory compliance, manage risks effectively, and support sustainable business growth. The ALM Head supervises the day-to-day work of the ALM Specialist. The position ensures optimizing and ensuring the safety and soundness of the bank’s balance sheet. The key objective is to protect the bank from financial losses while preserving and increasing long-term capital value.

Job Responsibilities:

Liquidity & Funding Management

  • Manage the bank’s liquidity according to Basel Rules and Bank of Zambia Guidelines
  • Report to ALCO and ROC the liquidity position and Key Risk Indicators related to Liquidity.
  • To monitor on a day-to-day basis, the liquidity and cashflow position of the bank
  • Prepare liquidity risk management stress testing scenarios.
  • Oversee the Bank’s liquidity profile, ensuring compliance with regulatory liquidity ratios (e.g., LCR, NSFR, local regulations).
  • Monitor and optimize funding sources (deposits, wholesale funding, interbank lines) to achieve cost efficiency and robustness under stress conditions.
  • Lead stress testing and scenario analysis for liquidity and funding risks, including contingency funding planning.

Interest Rate Risk & Market Risk Management

  • Monitor, measure, and manage the Bank’s interest rate risk in the banking book (IRRBB), including repricing gaps, duration mismatches, and basis risks.
  • Develop strategies to optimize net interest margin and protect the Bank from adverse rate movements.
  • Implement hedging strategies using derivatives and other instruments in coordination with Treasury and Risk functions.
  • Manage Interest Rate Risk in the banking book (IRRBB)

Capital & Balance Sheet Optimization

  • Drive initiatives to optimize capital usage across the Bank, ensuring efficient allocation to business lines within regulatory constraints.
  • Monitor capital adequacy ratios (CAR), regulatory capital requirements, leverage ratios, and risk-weighted assets, and provide recommendations to CFO and Board.
  • Guide issuance of capital or debt instruments, working closely with Treasury, CFO, and Investor Relations
  • Manage the bank’s capital according to Basel Rules and Bank of Zambia Guidelines
  • Report to ALCO and ROC the capital position and Key Risk Indicators related to Capital.
  • Prepare capital risk management stress testing scenarios.
  • Coordinate and consolidate the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process for the bank.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure that all ALM and balance sheet management activities are compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Liaise with regulators, external auditors, and rating agencies regarding liquidity, funding, and capital issues.
  • Keep abreast of changes in regulatory frameworks and industry best practices affecting ALM and balance sheet management.
  • Coordinate the implementation of Basel accords in the Bank.
  • Timely submission of Regulatory Returns and any ad – hoc requests from the central bank

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive management dashboards and reports to CFO, ALCO, and Board committees.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as net interest income, liquidity ratios, capital adequacy, and funding mix.
  • Provide proactive recommendations on balance sheet adjustments to meet profitability, capital, and liquidity targets.

ALCO Secretariat

  • To provide secretarial services to the ALCO and ensure implementation of ALCO actions by following up on the Action Log
  • Organize standard and ad-hoc meetings to meet the requirements of the bank.

FTP and Pricing

  • Ensuring FTP guides business (Retail, Corporate, Business Banking and Treasury) behavior and immunizes businesses from market risk as far as possible.
  • Review pricing for loan products and ensure alignment with policy.
  • Lead pricing conversations to ensure the pricing models are kept up to date

External Funding

  • Support the contraction of external funding to support the required funding for the bank.
  • To carry out all other tasks as may be required by management.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 Credits including English & Mathematics.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • ACI Certificate.
  • Professional certification such as CFA, FRM, or PRM will be an added advantage.
  • At least five (5) years in a bank’s Treasury/Finance environment or in a Middle or Senior ALM, Treasury, or Balance Sheet Management role.
  • Demonstrated leadership in balance sheet structuring, ALM policy development, and capital optimization.
  • Proven track record in dealing with regulators and managing ALCO processes.
