Role Overview:
The Assistant Accountant will provide essential financial and administrative support within the company’s meat and food processing operations, ensuring accurate record-keeping, stock valuation, and timely financial reporting. The role works closely with operations to maintain effective inventory control—while supporting cost analysis and product costing. Key responsibilities include tracking production costs, analyzing margins, and contributing to data-driven pricing and profitability decisions, while upholding strong financial controls, compliance, and overall efficiency.
Key Responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including daily transactions, journals, and reconciliations.
- Support preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Track and value inventory, ensuring proper control of perishable stock.
- Work closely with operations to reconcile production outputs with stock records.
- Monitor and analyze production costs (livestock, processing, labor, utilities, packaging).
- Prepare and update product costing models for different product lines.
- Conduct margin analysis and support pricing decisions to improve profitability.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
- Support audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries.
- Monitor payables and receivables, ensuring timely processing and reconciliation.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining ERP/POS systems and financial processes.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and support operational efficiency initiatives.
Requirements:
Education: Degree or Diploma in Accounting/Finance (e.g., ZICA Licentiate, ACCA Level 2, or equivalent).
Experience: 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally within food manufacturing or FMCG.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems including Odoo.
Competencies: High attention to detail for monitoring perishable goods and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
