Background

Energy China is inviting applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and highly motivated Zambian professionals to join our Sesheke Solar Power Project. We are seeking technically competent professionals who can operate effectively within a major international engineering and construction environment and who demonstrate a strong commitment to professional integrity, safety, quality, environmental responsibility, regulatory compliance, and project delivery excellence. The successful candidates will work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, Client, Consulting Engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and other technical disciplines to ensure that project activities are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and applicable Zambian laws and standards.

Role Purpose

The Civil Engineer will provide professional civil engineering supervision, technical coordination, and quality assurance across the construction and completion phases of the Sesheke Solar Power Project. The role will ensure that civil works are delivered in accordance with approved engineering designs, specifications, applicable standards, quality requirements, project schedules, and Zambian statutory requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
• Professional registration with EIZ.
• Valid EIZ practicing certificate/licence – mandatory.
• Minimum 3–5 years' relevant professional engineering experience
• Experience in civil works associated with solar PV, power, infrastructure, construction, or energy projects will be highly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, quality control, and technical documentation.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
• Excellent English communication and technical reporting skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
• Willingness to reside and work at the Sesheke project site for extended periods.

• Provide professional civil engineering oversight throughout project implementation.
• Supervise civil construction activities and monitor compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Independently identify and resolve civil engineering technical issues arising on site.
• Review contractor and subcontractor technical submissions and construction methodologies.
• Monitor construction progress, workmanship, quality, and compliance.
• Inspect and verify civil engineering materials delivered to site.
• Participate in inspections, testing, and acceptance of completed civil works.
• Identify defects, non-conformities, and construction deficiencies and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
• Coordinate civil works with electrical, mechanical, structural, logistics, and other project disciplines.
• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and design optimisation exercises.
• Review construction organization plans and specialist civil engineering methodologies.
• Ensure appropriate technical and quality documentation is prepared and maintained.
• Monitor implementation of approved construction methods and quality-control procedures.
• Support the application of appropriate new construction technologies, materials, processes, and equipment.
• Maintain an up-to-date register of relevant engineering standards, specifications, regulations, and technical requirements.
• Participate in project completion, commissioning, defect rectification, and handover.
• Support the preparation of weekly and monthly technical reports.
• Provide technical input into project risk management and construction planning.
• Promote high standards of construction safety, quality, and professional engineering practice.
