The Non-governmental Gender Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) was established in 1985 to play a leadership and critical role in the promotion of women’s rights and empowerment of women in Zambia. As a network organization, NGOCC’s mandate is to coordinate and mobilize members in a more concerted manner for advocacy and capacity-building programs aimed at advancing gender equity and equality and the overall status of women in Zambia.

The disproportionate impacts of climate change results in varied response mechanisms between the women and the men across various regions of Zambia. Similarly, the adaptation to clean energy due to climate-induced energy crisis varies, depending on a myriad of factors including but not limited to socio-economic status and culture. Adaptation to clean energy is one of the sustainable means to counter the threat to natural resources. Poor responsive to the climate change and the use of clean energy, threatens to regress some of the milestones on human rights and posing significant risks on the socio-economic, health and safely of the poor socially women and girls.

Further, clean energy provides a mechanism to address the prevailing inequalities that have been exacerbated by limited and inaccessible energy options.

The objective of this consultancy is to conduct research on women’s adaptation to clean energy in Central Copperbelt, Eastern, Lusaka, Northwestern, Southern and Western provinces

The specific objectives to guide the consultancy would be:

• To evaluate the forms of energy accessible to women
• To assess the levels of knowledge of clean energy solutions
• To measure the effectiveness of government interventions in promoting clean energy solutions
• To assess the challenges faced by women in accessing clean energy

THE CONSULTANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

• Conduct a review of the relevant literature on women’s access to and use of clean energy.
• Design and propose qualitative and quantitative data collection methodologies for the baseline study.
• Field Data Collection: Physically collect data from a sample size of 1000 respondents (100 from each district).
  Analyze the collected data, drawing interpretations in line with the study objectives.
• Draft a report
  Presentation: Present the findings to key stakeholders for validation

COMPETENCIES, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE of the Consultant (Team)

• A minimum of Master’s degree in any Social Science including but not limited to Environmental Science, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or related fields.
• At least 5 years of experience in development related work with bias on gender, the environment, climate change and agriculture in Zambia.
• Must be able to demonstrate prior experience in conducting gender and climate justice analysis.
• Knowledge of environmental and social risks associated to gender and climate change in Zambia
• Experience working with local NGOs
•  Prior knowledge of NGOCC and its mandate will be an added advantage.
• Evidence of and expertise and experience leading and guiding Organisations in Change Management processe
•  Strategic thinking
• Strong oral and written communication skills in the English language
