ABOUT ZAMBIA SUGAR PLC
Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill this position under the Manufacturing Department.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
This position reports to the Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering Manager. The successful incumbent will be responsible for supporting factory operations by ensuring a safe, consistent power supply and ensuring adequate life cycle management of electrical systems.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Be the Appointed competent person in accordance with electricity regulation to be in general charge of all electrical infrastructure under the area of jurisdiction.
- Be responsible for electrical safety in the workplace (area of jurisdiction) in accordance with regulations and the necessary standards.
- Be responsible for the appointment of competent persons to be subordinate, supervisors, electricians in charge or electricians as may be required to supervise or effect the proper installation, examination, testing and maintenance of all electrical infrastructure in accordance with the electricity regulation and provisions.
- Ensure that all appointed electrical and instrument personnel are competent.
- Management of MV switch programs and MV safety requirements.
- Collaborate with other engineers and project managers to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet industry standards.
- Prepare safety and technical reports/documentation, including keeping/custodian of updated drawings, schematics, and test work instructions & procedures.
- Develop and maintain relationships with service providers and suppliers to ensure that high-quality materials and services are used in the management of electrical systems and equipment.
- Ensure safety of people and compliance with all relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Manage maintenance budgets, maintenance timelines, and provide regular progress reports to stakeholders.
- Maintain and manage the electrical infrastructure that supports the transmission and distribution of power, including power lines, substations, transformers, protection, metering, and related equipment.
- Coordinate power outages schedules and programs. Ensure electricity reticulation and electrical equipment is legally compliant.
- Implement technical solutions to address power system issues, such as voltage dips, outages, and system overload.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Preferably 5 years’ experience in HT and LT electricity supply and maintenance including extensive knowledge of Control & Instrumentation.
- Familiarity with ABF systems will be an advantage (SAP).
- Proven track record with equivalent electrical infrastructure maintenance and improvement management.
- Employee and contractor management experience and track record.
- Continuous improvement knowledge and experience.
- Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
