Job Purpose:

Assist and support the Environmental Health Technologist/Officer in carrying out a range of environment health activities in the university.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Disinfect all identified all contaminated areas in the University as part of infection prevention program;
  • Identify pest infestation and bait according to guidelines;
  • Conduct mosquito larval control;
  • Conduct indoor residual spraying;
  • Fog surroundings to prevent pest infestation;
  • Decontaminate all loading and of loading bays for waste;
  • Participate in community health outreach under mother and child help section;
  • Participate in communicate health awareness;
  • Update stocks of chemicals with the environmental health team;
  • Follow up all dog bite cases;
  • Service and clean pest control equipment; and
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or Form V Certificate (or its equivalent) with 5 “0” levels including English Language and Mathematics;
  • Certificate in Environmental Health, Public Health or any other related field from a recognized institution;
  • Diploma in Environmental Health, Public Health or any other related field from a recognized institution;
  • A Certificate in Spray Operating will be an added advantage; and
  • A minimum of two (2) years of working experience.

Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:

  • Ability to operate a fogging machine and spray pumps;
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble spray pumps, foggers and other equipment for servicing purpose;
  • Knowledge in safe chemical, storage, handling and disposal;
  • Knowledge of risks and safety precautions observed when controlling pests of public health importance;
  • Knowledge in integrated management of malaria; and
  • Knowledge of spraying techniques.

Reporting Relationships

  • Immediate Supervisor: Environmental Health Technologist/Officer
  • Salary Scale: PSS 07
