(FIXED TERM)

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Environmental Coordinator – LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Lumwana Expansion Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Superintendent Environmental – LEP, you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing Environmental Management and Compliance activities associated with the 330 Kv Overhead Transmission Line (OHL) Project throughout the construction and implementation phrase.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate and oversee day-to-day environmental management activities across the OHL project corridor.
  • Conduct regular field inspections and environmental compliance monitoring of OHL construction activities, work fronts, access roads, tower sites, laydown areas and associated facilities.
  • Monitor compliance with approved ESIA commitments, Environmental Management Plans, permits, licenses, regulatory requirements and company environmental standards.
  • Coordinate and monitor environmental requirements associated with vegetation clearing, wayleave establishment, access road construction, tower foundation works, erection activities and conductor stringing.
  • Monitor and control environmental risks associated with vegetation clearing, biodiversity disturbance, soil erosion, sedimentation, water resources, waste, fuel and hazardous materials.
  • Supervise and monitor contractor environmental performance, including implementation of contractor EMPs, procedures, method statements and environmental controls.
  • Conduct contractor environmental inspections, audits and performance reviews and ensure identified deficiencies are corrected within agreed timeframes.
  • Support the investigation, reporting and management of environmental incidents, spills, complaints and non-compliances, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Monitor environmental performance against project objectives, targets, KPIs and environmental commitments and provide regular performance updates.
  • Maintain and review the Environmental Obligations and Risk Register for the OHL project and ensure environmental commitments are appropriately assigned, tracked and closed.
  • Coordinate environmental requirements for project activities involving the Forestry Department, ZEMA, WARMA and other relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Support regulatory inspections, environmental assessments, audits, permit applications, compliance submissions and engagements with external authorities.
  • Provide technical environmental advice to Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Survey, Land/Wayleave, Procurement and Contractors.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continual improvement in OHL environmental performance and risk management.
  • Provide timely environmental performance updates and escalate significant environmental risks, incidents and compliance issues to Superintendent-Environmental and Project Management.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering Management, or related field
  • Minimum Five (5) years’ relevant experience, preferably in mining, power transmission linear infrastructure, construction or major capital project.
  • Knowledge and practical application of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and environmental auditing.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, permits, licenses, Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), ESIA commitments and approval conditions.
  • Proven experience in contractor environmental management, field inspections, environmental audits and compliance monitoring.
  • Experience in environmental incident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective action management and environmental reporting.
  • Demonstratable experience engaging with regulatory authorities, consultants, contractors, project teams and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience in environmental management of OHL/transmission line or similar linear infrastructure projects, including vegetation clearing, access roads, tower foundations, stringing and construction activities
  • Membership of Engineering institution of Zambia
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Demonstratable experience engaging with regulatory authorities, consultants, contractors, project teams and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Valid Zambian driver’s license
