Background

The Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the excavator to load material (rock/ore) into dump trucks or hoppers. The operator must ensure maximum productivity while maintaining the machine in good condition.

Key Responsibilities:

Operation: Safely operate the excavator (e.g., Volvo, Komatsu, Hitachi) to load blasted rock or material into haul trucks.

Efficiency: Ensure smooth loading cycles to achieve daily production targets.

Maintenance: Conduct pre-start and end-of-shift inspections. Report any mechanical issues or defects to the supervisor/mechanic immediately.

Safety: Follow all site safety rules, including traffic management and signaling procedures.

Housekeeping: Maintain the cleanliness of the cab and assist in keeping the working area tidy.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Valid operator’s license/ticket for Excavator.
• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience operating heavy excavators in a mine or quarry.
• Good understanding of loading techniques and safety around dump trucks.
• Sober and reliable character.
