Job Description

  • Lead, train, motivate, and evaluate animal handling staff
  • Assign and oversee daily tasks related to cattle handling
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and SOPs
  • Coordinate animal movement, weighing, identification, and health checks
  • Monitor animal health, behavior, and welfare
  • Implement vaccination, de-worming, and parasite control protocols
  • Maintain and monitor proper use of cattle handling equipment
  • Keep accurate records of animal health, movement, and performance
  • Prepare reports on herd performance and operational improvements
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards
  • Collaborate in adopting new handling practices, techniques, and technologies

Candidate Specification

Experience: 5 years plus

Education Level: Degree

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, agronomy or related field.

Knowledge Of: Feedlot beef cattle handling practices, animal health and welfare protocols, use of livestock equipment and facilities

Skills To: Leadership and team management, planning and organizational skills, pro activity and initiative, problem-solving and conflict resolution

Ability To: Effectively communicate, work effectively under pressure, pay attention to detail and observation of animal behavior, ability to foster teamwork and maintain discipline

Other Requirements: Proven experience in cattle handling, leadership and supervisory experience
