JOB DETAILS:
Job Title: Fundraising and Programme Officer
Location: CLZ Base Camp, Lower Zambezi, Zambia
Starting Date: 1st January 2020
Background: Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) is a Zambian non-profit, non-governmental organisation committed to the conservation and sustainable use of the local wildlife and natural resources of the Lower Zambezi for the present and future generations of Zambia. The organization works in collaboration with Zambia’s wildlife authority – the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) and the local community and is centred around three main pillars of support: Wildlife Protection, Environmental Education and Community Engagement.
Funding Context: CLZ benefits from the support of several of the Lower Zambezi Safari Operators whose annual contribution covers approximately 15% of the core operating costs of the organisation. In order to consolidate and expand CLZ’s existing programmes, the balance of the funding is generated by larger institutional grants (e.g. United States Fish and Wildlife Service, US INL, Elephant Crisis Fund, Lion Recovery Fund, Tusk, European Union etc).
Programme Context: Environmental Education Programme – CLZ provides environmental education to schoolchildren living in communities surrounding the Lower Zambezi National Park, reaching over 3,500 learners every year. Annually, CLZ hosts six school visits of four teachers and 24 students, hosts 24 teachers for a teacher training and conducts outreach to over 65 schools in its project areas. Community Engagement Programme – In places where humans and wildlife coexist, providing support to the community forms a key component to wildlife protection. CLZ assists in the Chiawa Game Management Area with Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) incidents through HWC patrols, chilli farming and fences, monitoring HWC incidents, supporting alternative livelihood programmes, building elephant-safe granary stores and constructing hippo fences. Annually, CLZ also organizes an Anti-Snare Campaign, Living with Elephants Workshop, and hosts a Community Sports Day.
