Background information about the job or company:

Under the general supervision of the Grants Specialist, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the implementation of effective and efficient grantmaking, including vertical (philanthropic) giving mechanisms.

Responsibilities or duties:

  • Reviews grant and matching requests from qualifying CBOs and CSOs to ensure that support is provided, and its objectives and roles and responsibilities of participants are well articulated
  • Support the monitoring of grants and philanthropic giving for legal, financial, and programme compliance, including but not limited to, ensuring that grant and ‘vertical giving’ requirements are correctly adhered to
  • Support the monitoring and documenting of the grant making workflow processes; designs templates and tools, and provides data to ensure full compliance with internal controls and legal requirements
  • Collaborates with the Finance Unit to generate reports required for management reporting, compliance and financial audits
  • Support the development of training materials and conduct training for CSOs, CBOs and community grant recipients to build their financial management, financial inclusion and literacy, entrepreneurship, participatory grant making, community-based loan systems, and accountability capacities
  • Supports the M&E function through data collection and regular reports as regards progress in community development activities and all aspects of (participatory) grant-making
  • Performs related tasks as the supervisor may deem necessary from time to time

Qualifications or requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or any relevant finance qualification and two (2) years of relevant experience in grant-making (NGO)
