Background

Zambia Sugar is inviting applications for the position of Handyman Fitter x2 – Offcrop, under the Manufacturing Department (Nakambala).

This position reports to the Maintenance Foreman. The successful incumbent will be responsible for repairing and maintaining conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, piping, valves, timing couplings and pulley etc.

Responsibilities

  • Use the principle of Defect Elimination by carrying out inspections as per checklist and report back to the supervisor (ABF way of maintenance – iAMP).
  • Check and replace defective vee belts on all drives.
  • Repack glands on various valves, pumps and crystallisers etc.
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance of plant equipment and complete relevant paperwork.
  • Ensure the lubrication of all equipment in the area is performed to standard and as per PM WO plan.
  • Fabricate various simple steel components using oxy/acetylene equipment and welding machine.
  • Drill holes, tap threads and perform basic pipe fitting.
  • Ensure the Job Plan / Checklist on the WO is diligently followed as per the work-order tasks. Provide detailed feedback in terms of: Actual work done / corrective actions taken, Man hours used, Quantity of materials used, Tools, Failure mode where necessary.
  • Contribute to the RCA process in your section possessing a positive mind set and elimination of failure.
  • Ensure continuous improvement by implementing functional best practices.
  • Monitor own section KPIs, understand one’s contribution to them, contribute to solutions to resolve out of specifications KPIs and maintain actions to sustain KPIs being within specifications.
  • Execute work for stop day, shut-down and off-crop maintenance activities on the plant equipment and carry out the maintenance timeously without delay to production.
  • Identify personal Learning and Development needs.
  • Ensure plant and equipment cleanliness is in line with the “5S” standard.
  • Always adhere to and promote SHERQ & Food Safety standards.
  • Implement the “ABF Way of Maintenance” (iAMP) on all mechanical equipment maintenance to ensure ABF is the world class sugar producer.
  • Ensure compliance to minimum operating standards.
  • Implement preventative / reactive / predictive maintenance initiatives and plans to reduce costs and downtime.
  • Promote cross-discipline functional and stakeholder engagement as well as teamwork.
  • Partnering and communicating effectively within and between teams and customer functions (process).
  • Promote a culture of consistently assessing risks and drive continuous improvement throughout operations by using best practices.
  • Ensure plant realizes agreed capacity (targets) and teams address areas for improvement.
  • Execute stop day or opportunity stops / shut down activities timeously.
  • Identify personal Learning and Development needs.
  • Carry out maintenance to achieve maximum plant availability and equipment capacity as per OEMs and ABF procedures.
  • Promote and adhere to the business’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
