JOB DETAILS:
• Job Summary
The Head Mechanic will be responsible for managing a team of mechanics and ensuring the efficient maintenance and repair of vehicles, machinery or equipment. He/she will lead and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the maintenance section.

Key Responsibilities
Supervision
• Manage and lead a team of mechanics, assigning tasks, and providing guidance.
• Ensure that the team follows safety protocols and adheres to all relevant regulations.
Maintenance and Repair
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
• Perform advanced repairs and maintenance tasks when needed.
• Oversee preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the longevity and reliability of equipment and the fleet.
Inventory Management
• Maintain an inventory of spare parts and supplies required for repairs.
• Coordinate the procurement and supply of necessary parts and Workshop requirements.
Training and Development
• Train new mechanics and provide ongoing training to the team on new techniques and technologies.
• Keep the team updated on industry best practices and safety procedures.
Budget Management
• Assist in budget planning for the Fleet Maintenance department.
• Monitor expenditures and strive to optimize costs while maintaining quality.
Documentation
• Maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Generate reports on equipment performance and maintenance activities.
Quality Assurance
• Ensure that all maintenance and repairs meet quality standards and comply with safety regulations.
Equipment Inspection
• Conduct routine inspections of machinery and equipment to identify potential issues and recommend repairs or replacements.

Communication
• Communicate with other departments to coordinate equipment availability and maintenance schedules.
• Liaise with external vendors for specialized repairs or parts procurement.

Emergency Response
Be available for emergency repairs and provide guidance to the team during urgent situations.
Qualifications
• High school certificate or equivalent; a technical degree or certification in a relevant field is preferred.
• Extensive experience as a mechanic, with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Supervisory or leadership experience is often required.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour when necessary.
