ROLE PURPOSE:

The Humanitarian Project Coordinator is employed for the emergency preparedness and response focus areas. The position holder will be based in Lusaka and will work closely with key thematic leads such as Education, Social Protection, Health and Nutrition Leads to ensure the effective delivery of emergency preparedness and response programs. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for regular updating and assessing needs, coordinating resources, and delivering program support to address the impacts of the humanitarian risks. Special attention will be given to health, child poverty, child protection, and education. Additionally, the Project Coordinator will work with relevant stakeholders, including the implementing partners, CSOs, and key government agencies to ensure a well-coordinated and child-focused response

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Head of Program Operations

Staff reporting to this post: N/A

Budget Responsibilities: Management of the response budget as per scheme of Delegation

Role Dimensions: The Humanitarian Project Coordinator works with the country office thematic lead teams in Zambia in ensuring quality humanitarian preparedness and response

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Project implementation and management of categorized humanitarian responses

  • Support coordination of Emergencies preparedness and responses.
  • Coordinate with partners, local stakeholders, implement and monitor the implementation plan to deliver timely assistance to affected populations
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain team to ensure adequate supply chain support to deliver high-quality programmes effectively
  • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child rights and safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.

Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning & Implementation:

  • Coordinate the updating and reviewing the emergency preparedness and response plan
  • Develop and update capacity building and anticipatory action plans with local stakeholders
  • Coordinate with supply chain team and partners to assess and maintain preposition of appropriate emergency supplies.

Programme quality and MEAL

  • Ensure that programme objectives and activities are agreed upon within the context of Save the Children values, aims and objectives
  • Ensure integration of humanitarian interventions to maximize the impacts of the interventions on children’s lives
  • Delivery of high quality and timely financial and narrative and collection, analysis and dissemination of relevant information and data relevant to the response.
  • Work with Media and Communications team to ensure timely submission of the situation reports for the humanitarian response and collect success stories to communicate with the public and donors
  • Ensure that the Humanitarian projects are uploaded in PRIME and providing updates.
  • Work closely with MEAL team to collect qualitative and quantitative data relevant to the response; maintain beneficiaries database and ensure data confidentiality
  • Work closely with MEAL team to ensure that a complaint response and accountability mechanism in place and well-maintained.
  • Work closely with MEAL and technical leads to document good practices and lessons learned to promote learning on humanitarian interventions to inform future responses.

QUALIFICATIONS

University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Emergency Management, Public health, Disaster relief services, Development Studies, Agriculture, International Relations, Education, Social Sciences, or a field(s) relevant to Humanitarian and/or international development assistance

Skills and experience in one or more of the following sectors, Food Security, Livelihoods, Education in Emergencies, and Child Protection in Emergencies, monitoring, review, and evaluation preferably from a child rights approach in accordance with the CRC and international humanitarian framework.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • At least 3+ years of field/programs experience in humanitarian response.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently as required
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in policy formulation, human resource and financial management, cross/multicultural communication and collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels
  • Proof of record of producing quality reports
  • Proven ability to collect, analyse, and present data in various formats, tailored to diverse stakeholders, including donors
  • Flexible to travel to remote areas affected by disasters with short notice
  • Being agile to work in irregular working hours, especially at the onset of an emergency
  • Ability to represent, and understand political awareness and advocacy
  • Work independently with limited supervision from the line manager
  • Intermediate knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office programs, e.g. Word and Excel
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values, and principles
