Simba School
Job Title: Teacher of ICT
Responsible to: Deputy Head Secondary
Job Purpose
• To successfully teach students the principles of information technology.
• To plan, develop and deliver high quality lessons in ICT according to curriculum standards, using a variety of technology tools, to continually enhance teaching and learning.
• To monitor student progress in ICT, keeping student records that include assessment outcomes and set targets at regular intervals in line with school policy, to enable all students to achieve their full potential.
• To maintain and build upon the teacher standards set in the Cambridge ICT curriculum.
• To demonstrate extensive knowledge of the Cambridge curriculum, covering IGCSE, A level and AS level by preparing students for assessment in the same.
• Use ICT to contribute to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare and personal care of children and young people with regard to Child Protection Procedures and enhance the philosophy that every child matters.

General Teaching Duties
Teaching and Learning
1. Manage student learning through effective teaching in accordance with the Department’s schemes of work and policies.
2. Ensure continuity, progression and cohesiveness in all teaching, by incorporating technological elements into each lesson.
3. Perform Regular Hardware and Software Updates on Classroom IT Devices.
4. Use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular objectives and the range of student needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all students.
5. Encourages creativity in students. Petitions administrators for updated hardware and software for the classroom.
6. Maintains computer laboratories and keeps an inventory of supplies and ensures that computer equipment is functioning properly.
7. Ensures that the internet in the classroom is used only for appropriate educational purposes.
8. Support individual learning, including students on the subject gifted and talented register, by planning work with appropriate challenge and monitoring and reviewing student outcomes regularly.
9. Work within the Assessment for Learning Strategy, using clear and precise learning objectives and defining criteria for success for each lesson.
10. Demonstrate understanding of computer monitors, central processing units, operating systems, hard drives and file storage.
11. Implement new initiatives, Academy, local or national, by adapting classroom procedures accordingly, monitoring progress and reflecting on pedagogical outcomes.
12. Set high expectations for all students, to deepen their knowledge and understanding and to maximise their achievement.
13. Use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect that allows students to feel safe and secure and promotes their self-esteem.
Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting, and Accountability
i. Be immediately responsible for the processes of identification, assessment, recording and reporting for the students under their charge using technology instruments.
ii. Track student progress, monitoring achievement against targets set, and takes appropriate action on student outcomes. Monitor Student Progress through Administrating Assignments, Quizzes, and Tests.
iii. Assess students’ work systematically and use the results to inform future planning, teaching and curricular development.
iv. Keep an accurate register of students for each lesson. Keep Track of Student Grades in grade book software to make analysing student performance much easier.
v. Unexplained absences or patterns of absence should be reported immediately in accordance with the school policy.
Extra-Curricular Activities & Events
a) To be a co-coordinator within the IT department in terms of schools clubs and activities that promotes the awareness of technology in the Secondary school.
b) To be proactive in engaging with wider community opportunities and events and the organization of educational visits and sporting fixtures relating.
Subject Knowledge and Understanding
• Have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the Cambridge Curriculum, level descriptors and specifications for examination courses where appropriate.
• Keep up-to-date with technological change and research. This includes hardware such as computers, printers, scanners, projectors, and digital whiteboards. Common software includes Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop, and Illustrator. They must be familiar with both Windows and Apple operating systems.
• Keep up-to-date with and the use of technology to enhance delivery, and student access, to the subject.
• To think on their feet and to solve basic IT problems under pressure and must have knowledge of a wide range of computer technologies.
• Must have excellent trouble shooting skills.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with education or ICT with education from a recognized institution.
• For non-education IT degree, applicant should have teaching methodology qualification from a recognized institution.
• Teaching Council of Zambia registration and practicing certificate.
