Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Imports & Airfreight Controller to manage import operations by ensuring the timely forwarding and clearing of cargo in full compliance with company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The successful candidate will coordinate shipments from quotation to file closure, ensure accurate documentation and invoicing, provide daily client updates, and maintain strong operational controls while delivering high service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage import shipments from quotation stage through to final clearance and file closure.
- Obtain freight rates and landside charges and prepare accurate quotations for clients.
- Ensure all shipping documentation (SI, CI, LOA, commercial documents, Bill of Lading, permits, etc.) is processed correctly and timeously.
- Open, manage, and close shipping files within prescribed timelines (maximum three months).
- Record LUIM numbers and maintain accurate registers and ledgers.
- Provide daily shipment tracking updates to clients.
- Ensure timely and accurate invoicing in line with agreed client terms.
- Allocate and manage creditors’ invoices and maintain a clear audit trail.
- Update sales lists and reconciliation reports for month-end reporting.
- Assist the Accounts team in resolving invoice and payment queries.
- Always Ensure full adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Performance Expectations
- Accurate and timely clearance of shipments.
- Daily tracking reports issued without delay.
- All invoices processed within agreed timelines.
- Files reviewed, analysed, and closed within three months.
- Sales lists updated monthly by the 30th/31st.
- Full compliance with SOPs and internal controls.
Education and Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Clearing & Forwarding, Logistics, or Business Administration.
- Computer literacy is essential.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in customs clearing and freight forwarding.
- Valid practising licence
- Minimum experience of 2 years handling shipping files is a plus for the position
